POSITION DETAILS
Job Title: Social Work Intern
Salary: $0/Unpaid
Work Schedule: Up to 20-hour work week
- LPHI offers traditional (M-F, 8 am-5 pm), flexible (for example, M-F 10 am-7pm), and compressed work schedules (for example, M-Th 8 am-7 pm). Schedule details finalized between employee and manager.
- The commitment is non-paid 20 hours/week for 12 months (Jan – Dec 2024) and will range in project length and time periods. This position will satisfy the MSW student’s integrated learning experience/ practicum experience requirement.
Location: This is a Louisiana-based, hybrid position with occasional (<10%) travel required
- LPHI maintains an office in New Orleans if the employee prefers to be hybrid or full-time in-office.

ABOUT THE POSITION
LPHI is seeking a qualified intern to assist with the Louisiana Adolescent Reproductive Health Coalition, which comprises members from around the state who advocate for improved policy regarding adolescent sexual health. Additionally, assist with the Reproductive Health Integration Initiative (RHII), which works with community health centers, which are an essential part of the health care landscape in Louisiana and are leaders in setting standards for community-based, patient-centered care. LPHI is partnering with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), the Office of Public Health (OPH), the Bureau of Family Health, and the Louisiana Primary Care Association (LPCA) in a strategic partnership to improve the quality of and access to reproductive health care statewide. The selected intern will work closely with LPHI staff on various projects related to community health centers and reproductive health care. This may include conducting research, analyzing data, and developing strategies to enhance the delivery of services. The intern will also have the opportunity to collaborate with key stakeholders, such as healthcare providers and community organizations, to address the unique needs of Louisiana's population. Through this experience, the intern will gain valuable skills and knowledge in public health and contribute to improving the overall well-being of individuals and communities in Louisiana.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Interns will work directly with the LPHI’s Field Practicum Social Work Supervisor and Family Health Program Manager and gain experience by:
- Supporting the development of policy recommendations, including but not limited to conducting literature reviews to summarize best practices in implementing telehealth centered on health equity and racial justice; reviewing and summarizing local, state, and national telehealth policies; and supporting the management of the policy analysis review process.
- Supporting Louisiana Adolescent Reproductive Health Coalition (LARHC) activities includes, but is not limited to, assisting with the organization and coordination of meetings and events, conducting research on reproductive health issues, and assisting with the development of educational materials. Organizing the Coalition Membership Database and LARHC library materials. Additionally, the Social Work Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders to advocate for reproductive health rights and access to care.
- Supporting the Reproductive Health Integration Initiative may include, but is not limited to, attending meetings with community partners, supporting meeting notes and follow-up items, and assisting in the development and implementation of educational workshops and training sessions. The intern will also have the chance to participate in community outreach events, such as health fairs and informational sessions, to raise awareness about reproductive health services and resources available to the community.
- Actively participate in related meetings, which may include supporting meeting notes, synthesis, follow-up items, and getting experience with project coordination and management.
- Assist across teams and work collaboratively with other programs within LPHI as needed.
ABOUT YOU
Position Requirements
- Masters in Social Work degree in progress
- Experience with research and/or policy analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Interest in macro-level Social Work, public health, reproductive health, sexual health, reproductive justice, social justice, health equity, health systems, research, and/or evaluation methodologies
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Well-organized, self-directed, and able to complete multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ability to learn new subject areas quickly.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Proficient in Monday.com
- Proficient with web-based meeting programs (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
- A commitment to actively working in alignment with public health and other social, racial, and economic justice movements.
- Ability to function independently and as a team member.
