Social Welfare Examiner

Interested in a rewarding career in which you can assist families in our community? The Department of Social Services is hiring for a Social Welfare Examiner. The Social Welfare Examiner involves determining financial eligibility of individual or families for other services as appropriate. The position is responsible for issuing assistance benefits in accordance with established policies and procedures. The work involves the review of applications and records, direct interviews with applicants and use of various computer systems to gather information.

This is a civil service position, and the salary is: 20.08 an hour with a 35-hour work week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The position requires completion of a Chemung County Civil Service Application which can be found on the Chemung County Website at: Chemung County Applications (chemungcountyny.gov)

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: A)Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant an Associate’s Degree and one (1) year of clerical experience in an office environment; or

B) Graduation from high school or possession of a general equivalency diploma and three (3) years of clerical experience in an office setting.

REQUIREMENT:

•Submission to FBI fingerprinting

•Submission of new employee information through the E-Verify system to verify that the employee may be legally hired within the United States (USCIS Form I-9)

•Passing of a Physical and Drug screen

•Submission to a Special Investigations Unit Check
