Job description

The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking Elementary Social Emotional Educator to join our team!  At Brooklyn Center Elementary, our teaching and learning is grounded in restorative practices, social-emotional competencies, and justice-centered pedagogy.  Under general supervision, the Social-Emotional Educator brings unique knowledge and skills to the school system and building teams as we continually strive towards our mission of becoming a justice centered school district. The Social-Emotional Educator is instrumental to the implementation of the district's restorative practices framework. The Social-Emotional Educator can assist with mental health concerns, assist with social behavioral concerns, plan individualized interventions, co-create learning environments where all can succeed and thrive, and consult with other educators, families, and community partners to improve functioning and well-being while at school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
in connection to Teaching and Learning 

 
  • Plan and provide learning experiences in classrooms; this can be collaborative work with grade level teachers or direct instruction.
  • Promote and assist in effective and efficient school-wide implementation of an MTSS framework for both academics and Social Emotional learning, in partnership with building administrators and leadership teams
  • Support integration of Social Emotional learning into academic learning and create curricular resources that meet the unique needs of our district
  • Provide SEL-related education and consultative services to school staff
  • Provide SEL-related education and consultative services to families 
  • Assist in conducting needs assessments to support various resource allocation and/or programming decisions
  • Perform other duties as assigned, per the building needs
 in connection to Restorative Practices 
  • Collaborate with the restorative practice specialists and restorative practice coordinator to successfully implement foundational tools, preventative measures, and repairing harm among our community of learners 
  • Create resources to add to the building's restorative practice toolkit; this may include facilitating professional learning to staff, families, and community members 
  • Facilitate small group work, focused on social skill development and emotional identification and regulation with scholars; this work will be specific, intentional, and focused on increasing scholar ability to engage appropriately at school 
  • Participate in and co-lead the Student Assistance Team (SAT) 
  • Collect information to identify and analyze problems and develop, implement, and evaluate intervention plans
 in connection to Student Support/Mental Health Coordination
  • Coordinate supports for homeless and highly mobile (HHM) scholars and families 
  • Support families in arranging for services from an outside agency and gather relevant school information to assist in evaluating the effects of treatment as requested 
  • Facilitate crisis response procedures and participate in the school crisis team
  • Provide consultation in crisis prevention and response
  • Assist with student risk assessments when necessary
  • Assist in completing student threat assessment activities when necessary
  • Provide an immediate response to students, families, and school staff in crisis situations and determine when a referral to an outside agency is needed
 

Qualifications and Requirements 
Candidate must have licensure in one of the following areas - 

 
  • Licensed  School Psychologist, 
  • Licensed School Counselor, 
  • Licensed Mental Health Professional
  • Licensed School Social Worker
  • Licensed K-12 Teacher (MN)
  • Licensure in related field or ability to obtain licensure in one of the above areas
 Work Experience
  • 3+ years of working in a related position preferred.
  • Excellent opportunity for candidates currently working toward a licensure in administration or educational leadership

Pay and Benefits: Competitive Pay and Benefits based on the contract
Duty Days: 197 duty days, 7:15 a.m. -  3:00 p.m. includes 8 paid holidays! (Based in a full year)
