BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Crime Scene Investigators perform professional investigative work that complements law enforcement personnel in the evaluation of CRIME SCENEs which include but are not limited to, officer involved shootings, homicides, aggravated battery, child abuse, and sex crimes. They are responsible for documentation, collection, and preservation of evidence as crucial steps in criminal investigation and often provide the basis for effective identification, prosecution, and conviction of perpetrators. Crime SCENE INVESTIGATORs must take all care reasonably possible to ensure the integrity of evidence collected at CRIME SCENEs by adherence to policy, by on the-job training, and associated departmental training. This position will document suspects, victims, and subjects of crimes for potential evidence through photographing and diagramming scenes using tape measure, roll-a-tape, and survey instruments including total stations, laser scanners and drones. The Crime Scene Investigator will locate, process, and preserve evidence such as latent evidence, biological evidence, trace evidence and fingerprint evidence. This position will establish working relationships with assisting agencies and comply with the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures to include New Mexico laws and to maintain proper chain of custody. This position will safely operate and maintain a clean and stocked assigned CRIME SCENE team vehicle and serve as specialist in firearms examination and NIBIN Acquisitions. This position will work in a fast-paced work environment with competing demands, strict deadlines, multiple tasks, and exposure to criminal elements. This position will cooperate with and assist regulatory and law enforcement agencies. This position may be called to testify in courts or administrative hearings. This position may conduct data extractions on cellphones and other electronic devices. This position may conduct geofencing investigations. STARTING SALARY RANGE:
$24.95 - $27.54 per hour
