Job Description:


This seasonal non-exempt position is responsible for performing a variety of operational tasks involving de-icing, equipment operation, snow removal, and site management; perform related work as required.


Essential Functions:


The examples of functions listed in this job description are representative, but not necessarily exhaustive, of any one position in this job classification. Management may assign other functions not listed herein at its sole discretion.
• Leads a work crew;
• performs snow removal functions (e.g., plowing, shoveling, ice picking);
• uses hand tools (e.g., ice pick , shovel) and powered snow removal equipment (e.g., plow truck, skid steer, snow thrower) safely; conducts snow removal procedures efficiently;
• conducts snow removal procedures efficiently;
• uses snow removal equipment such as shovels, plows, snow blowers, ATVs, skid loaders, vehicles with plow blades, and other power and manually-operated tools and equipment used to perform snow removal proficiently and safely;
• distributes de-icing solutions, including calcium chloride or rock salt safely and appropriately;
• understands and meets contract scheduled deadlines without sacrificing great customer service or excellent quality;
• attends safety meetings;
• applies de-icing chemicals (e.g., sodium chloride, calcium chloride);
• role models PPE usage;
• completes administrative duties (e.g., time keeping equipment inventory, de-icing use reports, punch lists) on time; reads site maps;
• documents safety and/or job issues using a digital camera;
• maintains a clean and safe job site, while ensuring current landscape and property is not damaged in the efforts of removing snow;
• maintains company-provided equipment, tools, and vehicles;
• demonstrates an independent understanding of routine snow removal procedures (e.g., plowing, salting, snow relocation, shoveling);
• completes assignments within man hour goals without sacrificing job quality; ensures all job quality performance expectations are met in accordance with company standards;
• ensures all job quality performance expectations are met to company standards;
• reports issues to Snow Route Supervisor;
• ensures all job quality performance expectations are met to company standards;
• is available to work in an “on-call” format involving irregular and long hours depending upon weather conditions;
• provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

• Snow Removal: Operates plow truck and /or skid steer properly; as necessary applies salt; may perform snow removal by hand using a shovel or blower; ensures all structures (e.g., mailboxes, signs, posts) are not damaged during the course of the snow removal.
• Field Operations Management: Manages the job site (e.g., staffing, preparation, clean-up); handles deicing chemicals (e.g., sodium chloride, calcium chloride) properly; understands proper and snow removal procedures.
• Job Quality: Understands the relationship between job quality and customer service, satisfaction, and retention; ensures existing structures (e.g., mailboxes, signs) are not damaged and quality standards are always met.

• Customer Service: Consistently exceeds customer expectations; keeps customers well-informed, listens to them attentively, and addresses their concerns; enacts a personal approach to customer service.
• Interpersonal Skills: Treats others with respect, collaboration, and support in such a way that work relationships are improved and morale is increased; is approachable; has effective communication skills.

Frequently stand, walk, or crouch on narrow and/or slippery surfaces; work in extremely cold and freezing climates for long periods of time; stoop, kneel, bend to pick up or move objects; walk for long distances and on sloped ground and uneven surfaces; move, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range.


Special Considerations/Licenses:


License: A valid class C driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this job classification, is required at the time of appointment.
Language: While not required, basic bilingual English and Spanish skills are preferred for this classification.
Certifications: No certifications are required of this job classification.
Working Conditions: Work is predominately outdoors, exposed to extremely cold and freezing temperatures, and noise levels; exposure to dust, grease, oils, snow removal chemicals, dust, fumes, and electrical currents.
Background Investigation: Incumbents must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates may be subject to a background investigation and/or drug test.
Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification serve an introductory period of three months.
