Job Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conducting assessments to identify students' fine motor skills, sensory processing abilities, visual-motor integration, and activities of daily living.
- Evaluating students' needs to determine if occupational therapy services are required.
- Individualized Intervention Plans:
- Creating individualized intervention plans based on assessment findings.
- Implementing therapeutic activities and strategies to address fine motor coordination, sensory integration, handwriting, and other skills necessary for academic success.
- Collaboration with School Staff:
- Collaborating with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to integrate occupational therapy goals into the overall education plan.
- Providing recommendations for classroom modifications and adaptive equipment to facilitate students' participation in the learning environment.
- Therapeutic Interventions:
- Conducting one-on-one or group therapy sessions to address specific goals outlined in the intervention plan.
- Using therapeutic exercises, activities, and interventions to improve students' motor skills, sensory processing, and functional abilities.
- Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL):
- Supporting students in developing independence in activities of daily living, such as dressing, feeding, and hygiene.
- Collaborating with parents and caregivers to reinforce skills at home.
- Assistive Technology:
- Recommending and implementing assistive technology and adaptive equipment to enhance students' access to the curriculum and improve their independence.
- Progress Monitoring:
- Regularly assessing and documenting students' progress towards their occupational therapy goals.
- Adjusting intervention plans as needed to address evolving needs and promote continued improvement.
- Participation in Individualized Education Program (IEP) Meetings:
- Attending IEP meetings to discuss students' progress, set goals, and collaborate with the educational team to support overall development.
- Professional Development:
- Staying current with the latest research, techniques, and trends in occupational therapy through ongoing professional development.
- Advocacy and Education:
- Advocating for the role of occupational therapy in the school setting.
- Providing education and training to school staff, parents, and caregivers on strategies to support students with occupational therapy needs.
Qualifications:
- Certification as an SLPA in state of Texas
- Minimum2 years working with students with communication disorders
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting the well-being of students
