Our Polysomnogram Technologist (Sleep Tech)reports to the CardioPulmonary/RT/Sleep Manager and supports Edgerton Hospital by testing patients in the Sleep Disorders Center. The technologist performs polysomnographic testing and a wide variety of other duties related to the evaluation and treatment of patients with known or suspected sleep disorders; stimulates innovative improvements in patient care through demonstrating expertise as a practitioner. This position particularly addresses the care administered to the patient with sleep disorders.

Other duties are as follows:

  • Exhibits the values and philosophy of Edgerton Hospital and Health Services in daily activities and performs job functions in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Performs simple and complex polysomnographic multiple sleep latency testing.
  • Performs all facets of polysomnograms and scores all physiologic parameters of polysomnographic recording. In addition, prepares a report of data for the interpreting physician.
  • Schedules and coordinates patient assessment, testing, results reporting, treatment and follow-up in conjunction with the Pulmonology/Sleep Clinic.
  • Coordinates the ongoing education of medical staff and general public.
  • Assures the quality and accuracy of polysomnographic established standards.
  • Participate in annual review of policy and procedure manual.
  • Performs routine maintenance and calibration of the testing equipment to ensure its proper operating condition and reporting the need for major repair.
  • Maintains working relationship and communication with other departments and physicians.
  • Assists in developing and implementing a review mechanism in order to appraise the quality of care delivered by the Sleep Disorder Center.
  • Physical assessment is age appropriate.
  • Develops plan of care which is age appropriate.
  • Administers age-appropriate therapies and monitors response to these therapies.
  • Maintains technical competence necessary to provide quality care to age specific patient population.
  • Fulfills all required continuing education, both hospital education and AASM interscorer reliability monthly exams
  • Uses equipment that is appropriate for the age of the patients being treated.
  • Assists in maintaining national accreditation through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
