Job description

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Skilled Trades Supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires four (4) years of journey-level experience in the area of assignment, including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience.

General Description

The Skilled Trades Supervisor position with the Port Everglades Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for supervisory and administrative work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities at Port Everglades.
Work involves assigning and reviewing subordinates performing varied duties within the HVAC construction trade, but could include and is not limited to carpentry, plumbing, painting, air conditioning, welding, gates, doors, loading bridges, electric, and other related trade groups.
Depending on functional responsibility areas, this position is also responsible for planning, laying out, assigning, and coordinating with administrative supervisors the daily maintenance, and repairs performed by assigned Port personnel.


Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Port Security Identification Badge for the duration of employment.
Depending on the area of assignment, a Florida Class A/B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake and Passenger Transport Endorsement must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.
Preferences
Vocational or associate degree in business, Facilities, or Construction Management or a closely related field
Bachelor's degree in business, Facilities, or Construction Management or a closely related field
State of Florida Class A Mechanical Contractor HVAC License (current)
Broward County Mechanical Journeyman License (current)
3+ years of commercial or public facilities maintenance/Skilled Trades supervisory experience
1 + years of experience using Asset Works/AiM or equal Work Management System software (not applicable with A and B).
2+ years of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint experience (Advanced experience)

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Prioritizes staff assignments, plans, and implements work projects and methods.
Determines application procedure and oversees the purchasing of all materials, submits requisition forms and specifications for supplies and materials.
Advice on new equipment should be purchased as well as what equipment is needed for various projects.
Performs and oversees equipment maintenance, planning and troubleshooting of plant and heavy equipment as needed.
Determines and ensures if safety hazards exist to implement necessary corrections for safety procedures using equipment are followed.
Inspect the Port facilities to ensure proper operations, maintenance, and repairs are performed and completed per code and OEM requirements.
Plans, assigns, and supervises tradesmen, equipment operators, and maintenance personnel engaged in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, welding, loading bridge mechanics, carpentry, painting, and other associated trade work to repair and perform preventative maintenance. Inspects jobs in progress as well as completed jobs and assignments.
Consults and assists other districts/divisions within Broward County.
Assumes the duties of superior when needed.
Supervises and handles personnel time and attendance, appraisals, leave requests, paperwork, hiring, filing, and staff meetings.
Inputs data, maintains records, submits reports and work logs into a computer or tablet.
Communicate with peers and upper management on any maintenance- or repair-related issues.
Assists with preparing the Division's annual budget and recommends cost control measures.
Exercises considerable independent judgment concerning job priorities and methods and materials for each project.
This position may serve as a primary contact on weekends.
Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 25 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
