Description

AIMS Companies is currently searching for a Site Safety Technician.  This position reports to the East Regional HSE Manager.  The expected hourly rate of pay will be $28/hour and may include an average of 5 hours of OT weekly.  The position is located at US Steel in Clairton, PA and may include light travel of up to 5% to support outage work.  The Site Safety Technician provides a vital support service for AIMS Companies. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Conduct Safety Orientation and training of employees – Provide AIMS specific and applicable OSHA specific training to new and existing employees.  This includes LOTO, confined space, first aide, hazard recognition, and on-the-job training as needed.   Responsible for providing respirator fit testing.
  2. Monitor and enforce safe work practices:  Monitor and coach employees on safe work practices and PPE, based on sound safety principles following OSHA and AIMS Companies guidance.   Encourage employees to identify unsafe conditions, utilize stop work authority when needed, and work safely.
  3. Safety Supervision:  Manages employee safety readiness.
  4. Correct Unsafe Conditions:  Assist employees in identifying and correcting unsafe conditions.Once unsafe conditions are identified, work with the site leadership to design solutions to mitigate the exposure to those risks.
  5. Conduct safety meetings:  Safety meeting shall be held prior to every shift and periodically thereafter (weekly and/or monthly)
  6. Relationship Building: Develop positive relationships with employees, gaining trust and respect.
  7. Hazard Assessments: Preview projects and work sites before work begins to determine safety related risks and hazards utilizing a job safety analysis process.  Participates in the safe planning of work by advising field technicians on company safety requirements.
  8. Safety Audits: Visit active job sites to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance and safe working conditions. 
  9. Inspect Equipment:  Perform, as needed, and review equipment inspection records to confirm compliance and or observe unsafe conditions. This includes periodic inspections of all vehicles.
  10. Incident Investigation:  Perform basic investigations of all incidents and ensure proper reporting is performed and provided to the Safety Manager.  Assist with identifying incident causes and corrective actions. 
  11. Recommend Solutions:  Identify and communicate solutions, new improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures.
  12. Record-Keeping:  Maintain safety related documentation including, but not limited to, audit reports, inspection form, incident reports, job safety analysis, etc.
  13. Communication:  Maintain excellent communication with customer (as needed), site leadership, and Regional HSE Manager
Qualifications

Skills and Abilities Required:

 

  1. Two or more years of safety experience – steel, industrial, construction, or refineries.
  2. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, requirements and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively both in written and spoken format.
  4. The ability to listen well and take in feedback from employees without passing judgement.
  5. Must be able to maintain accurate records of all safety and training related activities.
  6. Must have the ability to access heights, climb ladders, stairs, scaffold, etc. to gain access to work areas and crews in elevated locations.

 

Minimal requirements include:

  1. Associate’s degree in relevant field of study and or combined years of experience.
  2. Experience as a field trainer, industrial hygiene, OSHA 10/30, OSHA 40 HAZWOPER preferred.
  3. Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  4. Strong computer skills including MS Word and Excel.
  5. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

 

Working Conditions

Work is performed inside and outside in the elements.  This position will include exposure to various weather, noise, and temperature conditions (i.e heat, rain, snow).  Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend and twist at the waist, climb stairs, and walk without assistance.

Successful completion of pre-employment background and drug testing is required for this position.  Must meet vehicle insurability requirements.
