We are seeking a responsible Safety Officer to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety (OHSA) guidelines. Your primary role will be advising on measures to minimize hazards and maintain a safe working environment. Vigilance in identifying violations is crucial.
The ideal candidate is a dedicated individual who strictly adheres to OSHA regulations. Your focus will be on preventive measures, requiring attentiveness and proactive thinking. Detail orientation is essential.
Your objective is to establish a workplace that meets legal safety standards and cultivates a culture of prioritizing health and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development of OHSA policies and programs
- Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
- Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
- Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
- Initiate and organize OHSA training of employees and executives
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
- Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
- Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
- Provide employees, former employees and their representatives access to the Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses
- Coordinate with Project Management team and General Contractors to assist with safety planning and project setup documentation: Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) and Job Site Emergency Action Plan
- Develop Injury and Illness Prevention Program between the company, these include management leadership, worker participation, hazard identification, hazard prevention and control, education and training, and program evaluation and improvement. - Creates and keeps records of safety meeting topics and attendance.
- Oversees safety meetings between the company departments.
- Assists in the preparation of various reports, documents and forms.
- Post, at a prominent location within the workplace, the OSHA poster (or the state-plan equivalent) informing employees of their rights and responsibilities.
- Conduct regular training in OSHA 10 & OSHA 30 for employees
Requirements:
- Proven experience as Safety Officer
- In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures
- Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
- Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety
- Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
- Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Diligent with great attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics
- BSc/BA in safety management, engineering or relevant field is preferred
- Certificate in occupational health and safety
