Summary
The Medical Director is a member of the clinical leadership team who is committed to delivering excellent clinical services at Outer Cape Health Services (OCHS) through high quality leadership and management.
The Medical Director supports the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) in achieving OCHS' mission and vision for clinical care and community impact in the communities of the Outer Cape. As an organization, OCHS aims to achieve the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Quintuple Aim: 1. Cost reduction, 2. Patient Experience, 3. Team Wellness, 4. Equitable Care, and 5. Population Health.
The Medical Director represents OCHS and its mission to internal and external stakeholders and supports the CCO in the areas of clinical staff leadership and management, clinical practice, quality initiatives, clinical risk & safety management, utilization review, strategically aligned growth & development of clinical programs, and the integration & innovation of all clinical service lines.
Essential FunctionsLeadership & Management
The Medical Director is responsible for site-based execution of clinical service areas at OCHS.
The Medical Director ensures that team clinicians and clinical support staff practice evidence-informed medicine, and adhere to OCHS' clinical protocols and policies.
Models high quality clinical leadership and management for clinical staff.
Represents the CCO at the site level to ensure alignment of care delivery with the health center's vision, mission, and strategic goals.
Develops the clinical teams through coaching, supervision, and mentoring.
Identifies professional growth opportunities for clinical staff, residents, interns, students and all other learners.
Fosters a healthy, respectful, and productive culture and relationship with staff
Communicates effectively with all stakeholders on identified pain points, important trends and areas of opportunity for improvement.
Works to build and maintain psychological safety with staff and co-workers that encourages honest bi-directional feedback, which is critical to continuous improvement and high performance.
Represents OCHS' interests in its relationship with external organizations and stakeholders in the delivery of clinical services to OCHS' patients and communities.
Clinical Staff Liaison
In collaboration with the CCO and Human Resources team, participates in the recruitment, credentialing, and privileging of site clinicians.
At the direction of the CCO, ensures peer reviews are completed as required for all licensed, credentialed, and privileged clinicians to ensure high quality care and compliance with all oversight and regulatory bodies.
Collaborates with other medical/clinical directors to develop, implement, and continuously improve a thorough onboarding program for all newly hired clinicians and/or clinicians returning after an extended (> 2 months) leave of absence.
Collaborates with medical/clinical directors to ensure that all clinicians receive individualized mentorship, coaching and/or supervision to support maximum professional effectiveness and high performance.
Aligns clinician objectives for the delivery of high-quality care with OCHS' strategic goals, mission, and vision.
Participates with aminimumof 6 clinical sessions to support adequate patient access and continuity of care with patients.
Provides opportunities for professional development for all site clinicians to ensure adherence with best practice guidelines, CME requirements and to promote evidence-informed clinical practice.
Quality and Safety Management
Collaborates with the CCO, CNO, Quality team and other leadership and management teams to ensure effective data collection and reporting systems for continuous process improvement and to meet the organizational quality improvement plan.
Collaborates with the CCO, CNO and CPHO to plan and execute outcomes-oriented quality initiatives that demonstrate exceptional care to all of OCHS' patients.
Collaborates with the CCO and Director of Compliance to attain and/or maintain OCHS' accreditation with health care organizations and any of OCHS' regulatory bodies, for example, HRSA, Joint Commission, the MA Department of Public Health, and NCQA.
At the direction of the CCO, participates in clinical risk management activities including monitoring of practice patterns for clinicians such as peer reviews and other strategies to reduce risk and maximize safety.
Ensures timely completion of all required training by all clinical staff in the Medical Director's reporting line as outlined in OCHS' organizational chart.
Collaborates with the CCO, CNO, Director of Compliance and COO-CFO to develop and implement OCHS' risk management program as well as other compliance, privacy and ethical issues.
Works with the CCO, CPHO, CNO and Quality team to review and analyze health indicator data, specifically data that reflect Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and health equity performance.
Utilization and Clinical Operations
Partners with the CCO and COO-CFO and other team members to ensure fiscally responsible, mission-focused and patient-centered clinical operations at the site level.
Collaborates with finance and operations teams to set realistic annual productivity & access standards to ensure financial sustainability and adequate access for all clinical services.
Works with operations team to evaluate patient access to services and participates in the development of innovative projects and programs to optimize and increase patient access to care.
Supports the CCO in implementing the integration of the clinical, financial, and operational aspects of organizational performance.
Partners with the CCO and COO-CFO to ensure cost-effective utilization of clinical resources and optimal reimbursement for services provided by OCHS.
Strategic Planning and Development
Supports the implementation of OCHS' strategic and annual plans.
Works collaboratively with the CCO and site staff to achieve the strategic goals, mission and vision of OCHS.
Provides bi-directional communication between the CCO and leadership team, and clinical staff to ensure achievement of OCHS' strategic goals related to clinical services.
Helps the CCO to evaluate the need for new clinical service lines, clinical programs, and modes of care delivery aligned with OCHS' mission, vision and values.
Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience
3-5 years of clinical experience as a Board certified Physician, NP or PA.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to collaborate with and lead all clinical staff including: physicians, advanced practitioners, behavioral health clinicians, nurses, and all other clinical staff and clinical support staff.
Commitment to diversity of opinion/approach, psychological safety, and comfort with sharing power to achieve common goals.
Federally Qualified Health Center experience is strongly preferred.
Bi-lingual language skills are considered a plus

The functions of this role are conducted in a clinical office environment.
Hours of Work
This position is full-time, exempt
Typically, full-time salaried employees work 40 hours, 8am-5:00 pm Monday through Friday but may be required to work additional hours depending on needs of the position.
