Job description

The 21st Century CCLC After School Program is run as a partnership between the Schenectady City School District and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady.

The Site Leaders for the 21st CCLC Afterschool Program at Schenectady High School is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the after school program. It is the Site Leader’s responsibility to prepare lesson plans, facilitate program activities, supervise Youth Development Professionals (YDPs), collaborate with BGCS Specialists visiting the site, communicate with building and district administrators/ staff, and to create a positive, fun, and safe environment. The Schenectady High School 21st CCLC Site Leader will perform their duties in accordance with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Basic Standards of Operation, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady Manual of Operations, and established policies and procedures of the organization.

The candidates for this position should be a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced professional from any youth development background with impressive leadership abilities and enjoys working with youth from ages 13 through 18. Candidates with experience working with diverse populations of teens and preteens are highly encouraged to apply. This position involves extensive organizing, problem solving, instruction, and time management.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Functions:

  • PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: The High School Site Leader plans programs and activities that are consistent with the organization's youth development mission and adhere to grant objectives and goals set by the Schenectady City School District. Programs should focus on enriching the experience of the students through opportunities explore leadership, character development, various life skills like cooking and driving. The Site Leader is required to participate in Youth Development Training provided by BGCS and SCSD on no program days. A schedule of these dates will be provided during onboarding prior to the start of the position.
  • HEALTH AND SAFETY OF MEMBERS: The 21st CCLC Site Leader establishes a program setting that ensures the health and safety of members by collaborating with SCSD staff on safety procedures. 21st CCLC Site Leaders are responsible for creating and implementing program expectations for the students alongside the SCSD Teacher Leaders. Site Leader responsibilities include proper supervision of students and establishing safe dismissal routines for students. Emergency drills in collaboration with SCSD Teacher Leader are another responsibility of the Site Leader to be conducted periodically throughout the program year.
  • CLUB CLIMATE FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: The 21st CCLC Site Leader contributes to the creation of the overall site's climate for positive youth development to take place. This includes ensuring that a positive behavior incentive system is created and utilized regularly in programs. Incorporating the Three Bs into daily practices (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible).
  • IMPLEMENTING DAILY PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES: The High School 21st CCLC Site Leader assess, plans, implements and evaluates programs that reflect the voices of the students while also satisfying one or more Core Service Areas listed in the grant. Site Leaders are responsible for gathering and inputting attendance data in the appropriate electronic databases as well as filing paper program attendance sheets. Lifting in excess of 45 lbs will be required at times.
  • PROVISION OF GUIDANCE SERVICES: The 21st CCLC Site Leaders provide individual guidance to youth and Youth Development Professionals relative to their personal and professional needs. The 21st CCLC Site Leader will communicate and interact with parents/guardians on a daily basis to ensure student needs are met and parents/community members are aware of program updates.
  • ADMINISTRATION AND ASSIGNED RESOURCES: The 21st CCLC Site Leaders manages necessary administrative functions and assigned resources. The 21st CCLC Site Leaders are responsible for requesting and maintaining program supplies needed at the site as well as for their position functions.
  • PROMOTION AND MARKETING OF PROGRAMS: The 21st CCLC Site Leaders promote and market programs to members, future members and the community via creative flyers and newsletters.
  • CREATING AND MAINTAINING PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The 21st CCLC Site Leaders maintain close, daily contact with BGCS supervisor and SCSD building staff to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.

Additional hours outside of the 15 weekly program hours are required for administrative, planning, and training purposes.

Elementary Program Hours: 2:30-5:45pm M-F

Middle School Program Hours: 3:20-6:45pm M-F

High School Program Hours: 3:20-6:45pm M-F

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
