Job Description
Role and Responsibilities: The primary responsibility is to work on prescriptions for the West Zone. Duties include but are not limited to performing the following:
- Support recently hired foresters or silviculturists in making on-the-ground examinations and analyses of forest areas to determine which areas require short- or long-range cultural treatment in terms of the total ecosystem.
- Provide assistance and training in stand inventory, including Common Stand Exam Protocols and forest sampling.
- Prepare silviculture prescriptions to ensure that harvests & treatments are compatible with sign decisions.
Qualifications and Education Requirements: Successful candidates must meet the age criteria of being 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States; possess a BA/BS in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Agronomy or related field of study; 20 years of experience in a related field; possess knowledge of professional forestry land management principles, practices, and concepts sufficient to perform a full range of duties in the development and implementation of silvicultural land management treatments; knowledge of silvics, dendrology, reforestation methods, timber stand improvement principles and techniques, and harvest systems; familiarity with related fields such as wildlife, landscape architecture, plant genetics, hydrology, and soil science; knowledge of the interrelationship of physical factors (including climate characteristics such as temperature, precipitation, and movement and composition of the air, and soil conditions such as texture, structure and depth, moisture capacity and drainage, and nutrient content) and biological planting and seeding programs.
Hours & Compensation: Part-time position working 20 hours per week @ $35.00 per hour.
