Signs and Markings Technician

Installs and repairs all types of traffic Signs and Markings and fabricates signs in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

• Performs maintenance and repair to traffic control signs.
• Installs traffic control Signs and Markings in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Performs inventory of traffic control devices and supplies necessary for sign fabrication.
• Sets up barricades and traffic transitions at installation/repair sites, during special events or emergencies for the protection of personnel, equipment and motorists.
• Trims trees and brush away from traffic signs.
• Completes work records to include information such as location of job site, work performed, and materials used.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment and tools.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.

• 6 months experience in sign and pavement markings maintenance or related fields.
• Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

• Basic knowledge of the common principles, practices, equipment, materials and methods used in the maintenance and repair of traffic Signs and pavement markings.

Ability to:

• Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
• Ability to follow instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.
• Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly
• Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
• Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to complete related paperwork, work orders, etc.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical skills and accurately use measuring devices.
• Ability to learn and apply relevant federal, state, and local Signs and Markings codes.
• Ability work on-call rotation and respond to dispatched calls within 30 minutes.

Skills

• Must possess and exhibit the skills necessary to operate assigned tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner.

• Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test, physical exam and functional capacity test.
• Must possess a valid State of Texas Drivers License Class "C" and good driving record as defined by City policy.
  • An applicant who does not possess a Texas Driver's License or proper class, will be allowed ten (10) working days after a job offer is made to obtain proper licensing.
• Ability to obtain the I.M.S.A Work Zone certification within Two (2) year of employment.
• Ability to obtain the I.M.S.A Signs and Marking Level I certification within two (2) years of employment.
