Installs traffic signal equipment: installs underground conduit; installs pole base foundations, poles and mast arms; installs signal assemblies; installs traffic signals and underground or overhead signal cables; wires signals and power cables; paints poles and mast arm.
Provides assistance to Signal Systems Technician and other Traffic personnel in the troubleshooting and repair of traffic signals: identifies intersections with malfunctioning signals utilizing a computer; responds to calls from employees in Traffic Engineering, Communications Center and the public identifying malfunctioning traffic signals; analyzes symptoms of malfunctioning traffic controllers and pedestrian signals by using electronic test meter; locates signal conflicts, replaces defective parts at intersection and returns pairs to signal shop for repair; completes a card for each piece of equipment returned for repairs describing the symptoms of the malfunction.
Traffic Data: assists in the collection of traffic data; uses traffic counting devices to monitor and conduct traffic studies; complies and analyzes traffic data to be turned over to the Chief Signal Technician.
Assists the Chief Signal Technician with planning of traffic signal equipment installation. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Eight years experience in traffic signal installation and repair; or any combination of training and experience which provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Must have knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
