Sign Language Interpreter-Instructional Assistant
Overview:
The educational interpreter is an integral member of the educational team-serving students who are hearing, deaf, or hard of hearing. The educational interpreter provides interpreting servies using a variety of manual and verbal communication systems in the educational environment. This environment includes classroom, laboratory, field trip, assembly and other educational sites.
Requirements for classified position:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalence
- Passing scores on the Paraprofessional Exam
- Must complete a background check and a fingerprint based criminal history and be approved
- Meet Minimum Standard of:
- Passing score of 3.5 or above on the EIPA Performance Test (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (both written and performance components)) or hold RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf), NIC (National Interpreter Certification), CI (Certificate of Interpretation) or CT (Certificate of Transliteration) Certification and;
- Hold a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree from an Interpreter Education Program or in a related educational field; or
- Achieve a passing score on the EIPA Written test
- Be able to complete and document 12 seat hours of continuining professional development related to sign-language interpretation each school year.
