Each year, the Sierra Nevada Alliance places 32 AmeriCorps members with partner conservation organizations throughout the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. During their terms of service, members restore and monitor impaired Sierra watersheds, educate local residents and visitors on environmental issues, and recruit and manage volunteers for various programs. SNAP members gain skills and technical training, are mentored by outstanding environmental leaders, and provide a meaningful contribution to the communities of the Sierra Nevada.

Compensation and Benefits

Monthly stipend of $2,318 per month

Up to 170 hours of technical, ecological, and skills-development training with a $250 stipend

Positions include: Sierra Nevada Technician- Trout Unlimited Truckee Chapter

Position Description: Are you interested in working for Trout Unlimited in Truckee, CA? TU and the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps partnership is excited to host a 1/2 term AmeriCorps position out of our Truckee office to lead outreach and coldwater conservation work that benefits wild and native trout in the Sierras.

Specifically, we are interested in those with experience working with fly fishing/sportsmen’s groups, clubs, and individuals. This is important to being able to successfully carry out the projects you will be tasked with during your term. Members will serve full-time, from the beginning of April until mid-September 2024. This position will aid with projects with an emphasis on angler outreach, volunteer management, angling initiatives, angling surveys, e-fishing surveys, and rare and threatened species surveys and vegetation surveys.

Additionally, TU is looking for help organizing our existing members and bringing in new volunteers for our smaller scale restoration projects, particularly in the Truckee River watershed and Eastern Sierra. You will have SNAP 2023-24 Position Description the opportunity to make connections and pursue your own projects within the fishing and conservation world.

This AmeriCorps position will report to our California Inland Trout Program Director and work directly with our Northern Sierra Project Manager, Desert Terminal Lakes Project Coordinator, and Restoration Scientist.

Site-Specific Training Provided: - Field work protocol training - Event Planning Training - Restoration Project Management Training - Inland Trout Surveying and Monitoring Training - 4x4 Driving Training
