Shopify Tax Specialist

We are looking for an experienced ecommerce accountant to join our team. We are seeking a team member who will be process driven, organized, detailed and accurate. As an ecommerce accountant, you will be collecting, analyzing, organizing, and reporting financial data related to business transactions and assets within our company.
Job Responsibility

• Manage and implement sales tax automation between Shopify and Avalara
• Reconcile sales tax returns in Avalara
• Monitor physical and economic nexus to determine when we need to register in a new territory on an on-going basis
• Complete all sales tax registrations and permits as needed and required by law
• Manage and investigate sales tax notices, letters, and correspondence
• Complete manual sales tax filings as needed
• Complete “historical clean up” of sales tax filings, as needed
• Manage indirect taxes for US and international territories（If there is any)
• Communicate with team and CFO about all sales tax related inquiries, issues, and updates
• Troubleshoot and manage all tax settings within all Shopify stores
• Tax research, as needed to stay up to date and compliant
• Any sales tax related miscellaneous tasks: ad-hoc reporting, projects, or issues that arise
• Manage and implement duty tax on Shopify
• Make meeting notes after each tax related meeting, and follow up with tasks created during the meeting.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of sales tax laws across various states in the United States.
• Proficiency in navigating the online sales tax reporting process.
• Experience working with cross-border e-commerce platforms, particularly Shopify.
• Ability to accurately and promptly file monthly sales tax reports for each state.
• Proven track record of effectively monitoring sales data to ensure compliance.
• Capability to register, report, and remit taxes for new regions in a timely manner to avoid penalties.
• Familiarity with researching and analyzing global sales tax policies.
• Strong analytical skills for tax estimation and forecasting.
• Excellent attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
• Clear communication skills to liaise with relevant stakeholders and authorities.
• Relevant certification or qualifications in tax law or accounting would be advantageous.
