Job description

Job Summary:

We are looking for a motivated, experienced welder to join our team. As an effective part of the E&M Services, LLC team, the Shop Welder Assistant is responsible for ensuring welding production is completed according to the production plan while achieving desired quantity, quality, efficiency, and utilization objectives while adhering to policies and procedures. You will construct and manufacture metal parts and products, taking care to produce clean, polished welds. You will follow blueprints, determine material measurements, and take responsibility fabricating parts used in the later assembly processes. You are responsible for the quality of your output, so you must be able to perform simple tests to ensure weld quality and tolerance.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform Welding Tasks: Execute a variety of welding tasks under the guidance of experienced welders. This may include setting up equipment, preparing materials, and performing welding independently as skills develop.
  • Quality Inspection: Inspect, measure, and test completed metal workpieces to verify they conform to specifications. Ensure that welds meet the required strength and tolerance standards and report any deviations or issues.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Interpret blueprints, work orders, or production schedules to understand product or job instructions and specifications and follow them accurately.
  • Metal Fabrication: Contribute to the fabrication and manufacturing of metal parts for later assembly, including assisting in the sourcing of necessary materials.
  • Parts Assembly: Assist in laying out, fitting, and connecting parts. Calculate production measurements and select appropriate materials for effective component assembly.
  • Collaborative Support: Work closely with other fabricators as needed and fulfill special projects or tasks assigned by the Manager.
  • Safety Compliance: Prioritize safety by wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) specific to the task being performed. Adhere to all mandatory safety equipment and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Workplace Maintenance: Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following established procedures, rules, and regulations. This includes the proper upkeep of equipment, parts, and supplies used within the scope of your job responsibilities.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and procedures used for this position. This includes (but is not limited to) MIG, and TIG welding, metal fabrication, grinding and finishing metals.
  • Ability to read blueprints and commonly used welding symbols.
  • Must have working knowledge and the ability to use computers and software such as Microsoft Office, email, timekeeping programs, invoicing, etc.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be able to effectively communicate with other employees, managers, and all other relevant third parties involved with the jobs performed. This includes (but may not be limited to) typing, speaking, reading, writing, and hearing.

Education and Experience:

Basic:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a drug screen, MVR check, and background check pursuant to local, state, and federal rules.
  • Minimum 1 years' experience.

Preferred:

  • Prefer 2 or more years' experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.


Physical Requirements:

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job (but are not limited to).

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time, unassisted. The incumbent must wear a respirator when required. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate industrial machinery are required. This job also requires full range of body motion to include handling and lifting. The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 65 (SIXTY-FIVE) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.


Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work is usually done outdoors and sometimes at a client facility or job site and is frequently performed in inclement and/or extreme weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to moving electricity, mechanical parts, vehicles, equipment, and hazardous materials. This position regularly requires long work hours and frequent weekend work.
