Job description

SUMMARY

Manage engineering activities associated with application of Mitsubishi Power gas turbine components to non-OEM gas turbines and Mitsubishi Power turbines that have been serviced by third party suppliers.  This engineering group is the primary GT Engineering interface responsibility for manufacturing, vendors, and quality interfaces for the definition of parts utilization and qualification (drawings, materials, specifications, acceptance test plans, first article inspections etc.).  The engineering group will also be responsible for evaluating shop / supplier requests for manufacturing deviations.

The Shop Support Engineering Manager is a support function of our Manufacturing shops as well as our LTSA/Service Operations groups. The overarching goal is to provide technical engineering services to enable Mitsubishi Power to be first in class large frame Gas Turbine service provider for Mitsubishi J, G, and F Frames as well as W501F and other OEM determined by the business. Through continuous improvement and root cause and corrective action activities, improve fleet reliability, availability, and maintainability to reduce long term costs. The position is intended to be a working manager, balancing technical engineering evaluations and leadership of the service engineering groups.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development of vendor bid packages that include the required manufacturing drawings, specifications and acceptance test plans;
  • Lead the engineering program to identify and evaluate potential cost savings that may be achieved by relaxing design, manufacturing and inspection criteria and by performing material substitution requests assuring product meets service requirements;
  • Lead engineering development in collaboration with manufacturing shops for repair designs and improvements.
  • Identify component improvements that can extend part life and/or inspection interval extensions and develop plans to implement the identified extensions and obtain business authorization to proceed;
  • Lead the evaluation of supplier requests for information, supplier deviation requests and material substitutions assuring any modifications can be safely implemented for the intended service applications.
  • Provide technical support to the commercial groups.  This includes evaluation of customer parts configurations to determine equivalent Mitsubishi  parts that may be used, the ability for parts to be interchangeable or intermixed with existing parts;
  • Preparation and presentation for technical information on Mitsubishi GT parts and service capabilities  for customer and user group meetings;
  • Provide technical support for quality inspections and review of quality notifications;
  • Provide operating unit technical service support for GTs as needed;
  • Recruit and train engineers to support this product line on an accelerated basis;
  • Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance efforts;
  • Some overnight travel (expected to be 10 to 20%) by land and/or air with some trips lasting two or more weeks;
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION    

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

      • Education and/or Experience:BS degree inengineering from an accredited college or university;  knowledge of gas turbine engineering including overall turbine configuration, gas turbine design, boundary conditions, temperatures and materials.
      • Management Skills: Candidate shall have demonstrated management and / or team leadership skills in short term critical path development programs;
      • Language Skills:Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
      • Mathematical Skills:Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
      • Reasoning Ability:Ability to make judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements.
      • Computer Skills: advanced computer skills including finite element analysis, spreadsheets, Glovia and general office software such as electronic mail, word processing, Power Point drawings, etc.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee's working environment maybe loud.  The employee may be required to adhere to Mitsubishi Power and customer safety procedures including but not limited to, the use of personal protection equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, goggles, hearing and fall protection).
