Job Title: Shop Manager
POSITION: Wolf Tree Shop Manager
The Davey Tree Expert Co. is looking for an energetic individual that enjoys working in a team environment supporting vehicles in the forestry industry. The Shop Manager position leads basic maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs for our fleet of diesel trucks and heavy equipment including, but not limited to aerial lift vehicles/bucket trucks, wood processing/chippers, trailers, and spray truck equipment. In this role, the manager is responsible for communication and interaction with the local field managers on equipment repair estimates and status. Supporting the shop and ordering parts are vital as well as tracking and billing parts to help in the success of our inventory and business management. Managing the PMA program and communicating it is of huge value for the field. Accurate invoices that capture all our labor and parts to be sure we are billing our service works in parallel with managing the business against our budget.
- Supervises employees engaged in repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment.
- Inspects repairs to mechanical equipment.
- Participates and instructs mechanics in assembling and repairing trucks, tractors, chippers, stumpers, spray equipment, and other related units.
- Maintains accurate work records.
- Performs inspections of completed repairs to ensure thoroughness and quality of repair and suitability of vehicle for return to service.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Perform DOT inspections on fleet vehicles and trailers.
- Assist staff with trouble shooting repairs on equipment.
Safety Culture:
- Continued work with dispatch and revealing behaviors and exposures at all opportunities.
- Developing an understanding of the Leading with Safety language and theories to expose the rest of the team to this leadership tool.
- Lead the team to understand how desired behaviors affect safety.
- Perform dispatch/debrief.
- Drive safety focus in all The Davey Tree Expert Co. locations. Image/Safety of equipment operation.
Key Results
- Quality and efficient repairs in the shop.
- Communication to the region and around repairs.
- Developing training schedule for mechanics based on employee requests and needs.
- Leads with The Davey Tree Expert Co. culture.
- Experience in truck mechanical repairs, diesel engines and hydraulics—minimum 2 years.
- Preferred experience with bucket trucks and other lift manufacturers; annual inspections, diagnosis and repair, welding and fabrication.
- Class B/CDL w/air brakes is preferred
- Valid Driver's License is required
- Additional training will be provided where needed.
- Experience with tree care preferred
