Job description

Are you eager to dive into the world of heavy equipment maintenance and repair? We are looking for a motivated Shop Apprentice to join our team in Springfield, OR. This role will serve as an integral part of our shop and mechanic team, assisting with a variety of tasks to ensure smooth operations. Responsibilities will include ensuring the organization and cleanliness of the shop and yard, receiving, and pulling parts. This position will involve assisting in the cleaning, maintenance, and servicing of various vehicles and heavy equipment, including rock drills, excavators, rock crushers, and haul trucks. Additionally, under the supervision of trained mechanics, this position will assist in minor equipment maintenance and repairs.

COMPENSATION:
    • Wage Range: :$18.00 to $22.00 per hour, depending on experience.
    • Potential promotional path with on-the-job training.

SCHEDULE:
    • Standard Shift: :Monday – Friday 7:00am – 4:00pm.
    • Work Location: :Company Headquarters located in Springfield, OR

QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Minimum age: :18 years old (to operate tools and machinery in the shop).
    • Physical Ability:: Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds in a physical environment on a regular basis.
    • Experience: Experience: working in a shop/service environment.
    • Driver’s License: :Valid Oregon driver’s license with a driving record that includes no more than 3 moving violations and/or chargeable accidents in the last 3 years and no DUIIs.
    • Background Check: :Successful background check through the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to screen felony records as appropriate in compliance with federal government restriction.
    • Pre-employment Requirement:: Pre-employment drug test and physical. For safety reasons, we have a zero-tolerance drug policy, including marijuana use.

    • Mechanical Aptitude and Repair Understanding:: Possesses a mechanical aptitude with a general understanding of equipment and repairs.
    • Self-Motivation and Independence:: Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
    • Adaptability to Changing Demands:: Flexible in adapting to changing demands and circumstances.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    • Carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling loads weighing up to 75 pounds in a physically demanding environment on a regular basis.
    • Standing, walking, climbing, and moving for extended periods.
    • Agile and able to navigate elevated platforms and confined spaces safely.
    • The job is performed outdoors in various weather conditions, such as heat, cold and rain.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
    • Maintains organization, cleanliness, and safety in the shop, yard, and inventory locations.
    • Safely handles loading, unloading, sorting, picking, stocking, staging, transporting, and securing inventory materials.
    • Pressure washes vehicles and heavy equipment to clean and remove dirt, grease, grime, and other debris. Conducts visual inspections of equipment before and after cleaning to identify any damage, wear and tear, or potential issues.
    • May assist mechanics in performing basic maintenance tasks on equipment, such as lubricating moving parts, changing filters, or replacing worn-out components.
    • Safely operates grinder to sharpen dull steel drill bits and reports re-sharpened bits to inventory.
    • Assists the Safety Coordinator in performing monthly shop inspections and walk-throughs
    • Assists in conducting regular inventory counts.
    • Performs parts runs to field locations on occasion.
    • Performs any other duties as necessary to meet job requirements and support the Product Support team.

SAFETY:
    • Promotes a safe and healthy work environment, adhering to all safety procedures and regulations.
    • Maintains cleanliness in designated workspace by practicing 5S principles to reduce safety risks.
    • Attends weekly department safety meetings.
    • Performs Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) daily for tasks performed.
