We are expanding at warp speed and are adding to our team – from our sales office and shop floor locations to our remote online team members. We are a diverse, creative, and passionate crew who is always looking to discover and implement fresh, innovative ideas and make some pretty amazing things.
JOB SUMMARY
Supervises the department to ensure product ships on time, without damage or complications during travel. Schedules projects with employees to ensure on-time product delivery of quality product. Supervises and assist with the planning, preparing and packing of product for shipment. Complete documents required for shipping and shipping records. Provides leadership and direct supervision of Shipping Department Staff.
The schedule for this position is M-F 7am - 3:30 pm.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviews completed work orders to review product and quantity to be shipped. Selects packing materials and wraps product for shipment.
  • Ensures shipments are prepared and ready when truck(s) arrives
  • Supervises and assists with the Construction of frames or braces (standard and non-standard) to prevent product shifting while in transit. Supervises team to ensure products and shipping containers are created that best protect the product for shipment and proper packing materials are used during transit.
  • Operates hand and power tools to cut and build shipping supports. Maintains forklift license.
  • Supervises and assists with loading of trucks with product to be shipped. Ensures product shipped matches work orders. Uses care to determine proper placement to prevent damage. Notifies carrier to deliver truckload. Unloads supplies from delivery trucks as needed and distributes to departments.
  • Uses computer and other equipment to log product received and shipment dates and create shipping lists, bills of lading and other labels. Applies shipping labels and stickers to shipments following department procedures. Includes packing lists as necessary. Close work orders and sales orders in company software upon shipment of product.
  • Contacts shipping companies to schedule shipments.
  • Develops professional relationships with freight companies to ensure proper trucks and equipment are scheduled and deliveries are made on time. Understands weight limits and DOT requirements and calculates load weights to ensure trucks are properly permitted for weight and size. Selects carriers for smaller shipments. Arranges for product pickup.
  • Maintains supplies of shipping materials. Complete requisition for replacement supplies.
  • Assists production department with assembly of products.
  • Other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Requires the ability to read, write and understand work instructions and complete basic forms. Includes basic math skills. Knowledge of shop tools helpful. This is normally acquires through high school courses in reading, writing, math and shop.
• Requires 5+ years of crating and packing experience. Previous supervisory and/or shipping/construction experience preferred.
• Must be able to use computer to schedule, track, and maintain shipping data and other information as required. Basic keyboarding skills required.
• Overview knowledge of Excel and Email helpful.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to use power and hand tools to cut and assemble shipping frames.
• Ability to use hand truck for loading/unloading.
• Must be forklift certified
• Requires common sense and logic required to design and construct shipping frames to accommodate a wide variety of large scale products to be shipped.
• Ability to work independently. Position may require frequent overtime beyond the normal shift.
