Job description

Shipping and Receiving Clerk

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Administration, the Shipping and Receiving Clerk (SRC) is responsible for tracking and communicating the specifics related to inbound and outbound shipments in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains accurate electronic and/or paper files to optimize quality, service and efficiency in accordance with company policies and procedures. Maintains a productive and respectful two-way dialogue with Purchasing Agent and reports timely and accurately to other AGI stakeholders to facilitate informed decisions and decisive actions. To be successful in this role, the staff member should be well-organized, have great time management skills and be able to act without guidance. Ultimately, you will contribute to the efficiency of AGI by providing professional and timely support to the company in the Shipping and Receiving of goods.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtain and process product orders, including receiving incoming shipments, verifying the contents against the purchase orders, registering them and distributing packages and letters within the company
  • Inspect packages for damages and report any discrepancies or issues to the appropriate personnel
  • Unload, unpack, and organize incoming inventory in designated storage areas
  • Maintain the company stockroom through organizing, cleaning and cataloging items on a regular basis
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all incoming and outgoing shipments in the electronic system
  • Schedule large shipments and plan logistics to ensure that there is sufficient storage space for incoming items and staff on hand to manage the shipments
  • Keep files of goods shipped and received by preparing regular Shipping and Receiving reports for managers
  • Handle issues arising in shipping or inventory handling
  • Ensure adherence to environmental management and systems
  • Trouble shoots shipping issues that arise and work to solve them
  • Place merchandise in a warehouse or storage facility by packaging, lifting items as necessary, operating forklifts and pallet jacks for large goods
  • Any other assigned duties

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organization, computer and administrative skills
  • Ability to operate warehouse machinery such as forklifts
  • Detail-oriented and multitasking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Previous experience in a warehouse or distribution center preferred
  • Familiarity with Shipping and Receiving processes and procedures
  • Proficient in basic math skills for inventory counting and verification

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Some additional training at technical school is preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years previous experience as a shipping clerk

This position operates in a storage/warehouse environment. Must pass drug screening.

Work hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with 30 minutes unpaid for lunch. No weekend, holiday, or overtime work is required. Psychological stress is usually low to moderate depending on demands or deadlines.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
