Our client, a global Architecture and Design Firm, is looking to hire a Shift Manager for their client in the Cleveland, OH office.
The Shift Manager should have prior water treatment facility operation, pump operations, and electrical motor testing and diagnostics experience. This entry-level position is for a new hire with some degree of supervisory experience or the first progression in their career.
- Requires technical aptitude and troubleshooting ability to supervise production or maintenance activities.
- Performs a variety of tasks that are designed to provide experience and familiarization with the methods, practices, and programs of the company.
- Responsible for personnel matters, including training, development, discipline, safety programs, and policies for direct reports.
- Supervises completion of work assignments following established department plans; makes daily assignments.
- Directs the activities of employees on an assigned shift to ensure maintenance, service, or production functions are performed and completed safely within established timing, quality, and cost standards.
- Monitors established performance indicators and continually works to identify, prioritize, and evaluate opportunities for improvement.
- Enforcing safety regulations, conducting daily safety communications, monitoring monthly safety activity, and conducting safety inspections as needed
- Directing the work of union-represented craft personnel responsible for maintaining equipment through time-based, predictive, maintenance programs.
- Managing a workload to include, preventative maintenance, outage planning, daily scheduling, and routine repairs.
- Resolving equipment malfunctions requiring scheduled shutdowns or “emergency breakdown” action
- Communicate and build rapport with departmental managers for scheduling maintenance actions and increasing confidence in maintenance capabilities.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of a critical spare inventory for your assigned work area.
- Ensure good housekeeping practices are followed by all personnel to establish a safe work environment.
- Shift Supervisor must have knowledge or ability to learn mechanical drives, motors, VFD’s, instrumentation, heat trace systems, hydraulics, crane systems, pumps, and managing spare parts inventory. This list is not limited to other mechanical and electric equipment that you may be exposed to in the work environment.
- Shift Manager supervises hourly personnel within the division and handles employee’s needs. Needs include but are not limited to, weekly pay processing, vacations and report-offs, tool and equipment procurement, employee conflicts, etc.
- Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in a technical field, including engineering, or a non-technical including business management, operational supervision, or equivalent experience.
- OR At least 3 years of supervisory experience in heavy industry or 5 years of military experience in a maintenance-related field.
- Military Occupational Specialty in a mechanical or electrical-based field of study.
- Solid mechanical or electrical aptitude.
- Ability to read and decipher drawings and create orders from a BOM.
- Ability to learn mechanical/electrical maintenance of various operational support equipment such as cranes, pumps, motors, gearboxes, controls, ECT.
- Must have computer skills including competency in the Microsoft Suite of Applications, and the ability to learn other application software daily such as the CMMS.
- Water Treatment - Experience with water treatment facility operation, pump operation, and electric motor testing and diagnostics.
- Ability to prioritize work/handle multiple projects, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, strong problem-solving/negotiating skills
- Supervisory experience in a union environment
- 5 Years of management experience working in a manufacturing/ industrial environment and/or 3 years of management experience in a steel-making operation.
