Job description

Zepf Center has been serving the Lucas County community for nearly 50 years. We are the leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Northwest Ohio. Services include adult and child psychiatric, substance abuse, case management, residential, Crisis Care, and therapy programs, as well as career development and wellness services. Zepf Center also offers primary care medical services to our patients to contribute to their continuum of care. Zepf Center is a trauma-informed agency and environment for both patients and staff.
We are currently seeking a Contingent Shelter Residential Specialist. The Youth Residential Specialist will participate in the daily planning routine by conducting admissions and discharges, assessing needs, assisting with linkage to assistance and stabilization of needs, supervising, monitoring, and engaging youth at all times. The Youth Residential Specialist will provide supportive services and actively maintain the daily operations of youth shelter programming. The shelter programming will ensure there is a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for youth and co-workers by following all policies and procedures. Residential Specialists will provide case management and supportive services. This position will require a comprehensive understanding of cultural and linguistic competencies in working with youth, family systems, and minorities from diverse backgrounds. The Residential Specialist should be capable of maintaining a flexible schedule, which may include on-call responsibilities and night shifts. All shifts are seeking to be covered, as this is a 24/7 operating facility.
Essential Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Supervises, coaches, and mentors' youth during all activities on the unit and while on outings. Monitors the cleaning of rooms and voluntary chores, while building rapport and engaging youth in programming and life skills.
  • Provides structure, discipline, and security by engaging with and monitoring youth at all times to ensure that their safety and rights are protected.
  • Provide positive interaction with youth and demonstrate appropriate boundaries and practices.
  • Collaborates with/develops a multidisciplinary team to meet the goals of the youth and shelter programming.
  • Completes all admission and discharge paperwork, security check, and provides therapeutic interventions for youth and their families.
  • Ensures that clinical records are complete, demonstrate medical necessity, and comply with program policy and procedure.
  • Cleanliness of unit for that shift.
  • Provides effective and efficient case management and/or outreach to youth who may need assistance as well as to public and private agencies who work with youth and families.
  • Participates in regular training to advance knowledge, build skills, and flourish professionally.
  • Attends all staff meetings unless otherwise excused by supervisor(s).
  • Residential specialist will arrive to work before or at the scheduled shift time.
  • The Residential Specialist will seek coverage for self when he/she is unable to make it into work or wishes to take a day off (this excludes extended day vacations).
  • Completes all paperwork related to Connecting Kids to Meals.
  • Enters all pertinent unit activity into the Shift Activity Log.
  • Contingent Residential Specialists are required to work a minimum of three shifts per month to maintain their employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Hours: Varies, must pick up 4 shifts per month.
Requirements
  • High school Diploma or GED plus 4 years of verifiable experience working with youth and families from diverse backgrounds and service providers who assist youth and families.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, 5 panel drug test, TB test, be eligible to drive a company vehicle, and have a valid driver's license.
