Shelter / Help Line Advocate (12midnight-8am)

POSITION: Shelter / Help Line Advocate - FT

SCHEDULE / HOURS: Monday - Friday / 12 midnight to 8am

RESPONSIBLE TO: Shelter Manager

QUALIFICATIONS AND RECOMMENDED KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

• High School diploma or GED. Some college preferred.
• Prior work experience in residential or social services.
• Demonstrated ability to work with little or no supervision.
• Professional and compassionate attitude
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Basic computer skills with experience in word processing and data entry.
• Access to reliable transportation.
• Satisfactory criminal background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage day-to-day operation of shelter during shift.
• Answer all incoming calls. Give information or make referrals as needed.
• Answer crisis line and assess need for emergency shelter or other services. Contact on-call designee when needed.
• Coordinate arrangements for incoming clients.
• Conduct intake and orientation with new resident clients.
• Provide individual support and assist resident clients with daily needs.
• Maintain communication with Supervisor and Assistant Director. Alert them to any problems or high-risk situations that arise.
• Identify and report maintenance and safety problems.
• Maintain daily log documenting crisis calls, shelter admissions, significant shift events, and safety issues.
• Complete all necessary documentation for client files.
• Maintain an accurate record of all services and activities.
• Enter services provided and client data into case management database.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
