GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Shelter Programs Manager, the Shelter Coordinator will provide support to services offered through Wind’s shelter programs. The Shelter Coordinator will support the Shelter Programs Manager with data collection, program coordination, and scheduling. The Shelter Coordinator will provide insight on program design to maintain relationships with other agencies pertinent to Wind’s shelter programs. The Shelter Coordinator will advocate that youth are presented with suitable options for housing, relevant community resources, and support with mental health or drug and alcohol services. The Shelter Coordinator is expected to have a high compassion level when interacting with youth, including those who are currently using illegal substances, experiencing a mental health illness/crisis, and/or unwilling to be medication compliant. The Shelter Coordinator will be responsible for the oversight of building maintenance, programs, safety and general needs, to be reported to the Shelter Programs Manager.
This position is a full time, non-exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 403(b) retirement plan; paid Holidays, Sick and Vacation time. The position is employed by Goodwill Industries® of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc., through Wind Youth Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ensures the provision of a safe, supportive and enriching environment for youth.
· Reviews all intake files for program eligibility.
· Coordinates the activities and schedules of the shelter programs’ programmatic partners.
· Facilitates groups and workshops for youth as needed.
· Maintains up to date information regarding availability and status of community programs and resources that are necessary and relevant to youth.
· Transports youth as needed.
· Ensures that youth receive appropriate services as required by the grant.
· Enters data into Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) as required by funding contracts.
· Conducts monthly safety inspections at Wind shelter locations.
· Offers all services in a non-judgmental and holistic manner, utilizing a harm reduction approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem, exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to change their high risk behaviors.
· Demonstrates appropriate patience and tact while interacting with youth experiencing crisis with the abilily to remain calm and focused.
· Maintains professional behavior and appropriate boundaries with youth and staff members.
· Assist with daily activities at shelter programs to maintain safety, functionality and positive group interactions including the Good Neighbor Policy.
· Provides conflict resolution and conducts youth interdisciplinary meetings
· Plans and supports various shelter events
· Assist youth with accessing resources, making referrals and provides advocacy when youth encounter systemic barriers.
· Works with management to ensure programs meet contractual and internal goals.
· Interacts in ways that are affirming and effective with youth who have varying genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, socio-economic statuses and traumatic backgrounds.
· Advises the Shelter Programs Manager regarding needs, goals, future plans and problems pertinent to the shelter programs’ operations.
· Assists the Shelter Programs Manager with creating schedules.
· Completes all required documentation on time.
· Keeps current on information and community resources and relevant local service providers.
· Participates in agency and community wide case management meetings.
· Attends meetings and training as necessary
· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
· Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the organization.

· Must pass a drug screening and maintain compliance with the organization’s drug and alcohol policy.
· Must pass a background screening and maintain compliance with the organization’s associated polices.
· Must not have record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates an ongoing tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.

Basic Qualifications of the Role:
