Job description

Overview:
Location: Waterbury Family Shelter (Waterbury, CT)
Status: Non-exempt/Part-time
Hours Per Week: 25
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (include one 15-minute paid break per day)

Scope & Purpose of Position:
Assist the supervisor with administrative support, including taking minutes, gathering statistics, and ordering supplies for the shelter. Assists the shelter with entering data and reports. Act as a backup to the shelter case manager when needed.
Responsibilities:
  • Advocate for the mission of The Salvation Army and uphold the agency’s values.
  • Deliver services with safety, respect, and effectiveness.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the organization, shelter, and housing programs.
  • Complete all administrative tasks assigned by the
  • Track inventory and order supplies as requested.
  • Complete intake and discharge procedures as needed.
  • Prepare and complete intake packages for newly admitted shelter guests; review policies and expectations; review all intake packets when completed by the Housing Support Workers before releasing them to Housing Specialist.
  • Assure accuracy that the housing plans are up to date for all Housing Support Workers to assist all shelter guests.
  • Process requests for rental payments and communicate with landlords as needed.
  • Serve as the backup for Housing Specialist.
  • Assist in meal preparation, room cleanings, and house laundry.
  • Input all information in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Attend and actively participate in agency meetings as requested by the supervisor.
  • Compile and submit monthly shelter utilization reports.
  • Facilitate and track staff trainings, including onboarding and required trainings.
  • Keep an updated list of employees’ birthdays, anniversaries, evaluation dates, etc.
  • Maintain confidential personnel
  • Work in collaboration with the supervisor to identify and coordinate staff
  • Maintain an updated client phone
  • Maintain a professional and organized
  • Participate in workshops and trainings, as offered by The Salvation Army.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must embrace, support, and reflect well on The Salvation Army’s mission and
  • Experience in data entry and proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Proficient with the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • A positive “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing

  • Must complete the KeepSAfe training and other required trainings upon hire.
  • Ability to adhere to all policies and procedures of The Salvation Army, the State of Connecticut, the City of Waterbury, the Connecticut Food Bank, and other entities governing the distribution of materials and services.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
