Duties

TOUR OF DUTY: 6am to 2:30pm. This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

OPEN UNTIL VACANCY IS FILLED, MAY BE EXTENDED/CLOSED PRIOR TO CLOSING DATE. FIRST CUT OFF DATE IS 10/11/2023. OTHER CUTOFF DATES WILL BE DETERMINED AS NEEDED.


MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Evaluates damage and/or wear to Sheet Metal components and systems. Disassembles, repairs, fabricates, assembles and installs Sheet Metal components. Uses various measuring tools to measure size, angles and patterns for repair, replacement and/or modification.
  • Plans and lays out templates for construction and repair of roof components.
  • Checks system to determine component faults and to identify Sheet Metal pattern requirements. Lays out, cuts out and forms Sheet Metal material according to patterns. Uses welding, riveting, soldering, mechanical fasteners, forming machines and other tools of the trade to join and assemble components to prevent system leaks.
  • Repairs copper roofs as required. Measures and fits new sections. Caulks around joints and flashing. Solders joints. Repairs and installs metal roofing accessories such as chimneys, guards, gutters, pipes, valleys and vents.
  • Works with stainless steel, copper sheet, alloys, aluminum, galvanized steel, painted metal and brass. Uses welding, riveting, soldering, mechanical fasteners, forming machines, hand-held plasma torches, metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG) and arc welding and other tools of the trade to join, assemble and repair Sheet Metal, roofing and metal fabrication components.
  • Repair copper, flat seam, standing seam, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), asphalt and membrane roofs as required. Repairs or replaces cornices and ornamental copper roofing. Traces leaks and removes old roofing to determine source of leaks.
  • The incumbent must follow all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures. Must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that all safety practices and equipment are fully utilized. Must ensure the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
