Atlas Molded Products, (a division of Atlas Roofing Corporation) specializes in the development and manufacture of innovative, high-quality, HFC- and HCGC- free Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) insulation for construction, packaging, and original equipment management (OEM) products. Atlas EPS insulation is suitable for interior and exterior construction applications, various packaging uses and as part of manufactured systems, such as recreational vehicles, garage and pedestrian doors and sunroom panels.

Atlas Molded Products, is seeking a Shape Molding Process Engineer for the Kansas City, KS facility and/or for the Gainsville, GA.

The Shape Molding Process Engineer is responsible for working with sites within AMP’s network to apply best practices to our Shape Molding Process. This includes auditing, training, development of action plans, and supporting those plans through project management and facilitation. A primary component of this role involves the exercise of independent judgement and discretion related to AMP Shape Molding Processes

Job Duties & Responsbilities

  • Applies relevant methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes. Support the plants toward best practice Shape Molding techniques.
  • Manages projects related to Lean Manufacturing, 5S methodologies, and Continuous Improvement.
  • Builds quality into the process by working with department managers and supervisors to eliminate quality errors in the process.
  • Conducts and/or assists with root cause analyses and recommends corrective action where appropriate; Communicates analysis and recommended corrective actions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Conducts system capability studies and gap audits; assists operations in implementation of improvements to close identified process gaps.
  • Develops and improves processes to prevent quality errors prior to the manufacture of product.
  • Communicates any technical/process changes to appropriate facility personnel and provides training to production and maintenance personnel.
  • Completes required reports, including monthly updates, department statistical tracking, and complaint investigations.
  • Reports to and works closely with Regional Operations Managers to ensure that efforts are prioritized toward the largest needs.
  • Works within and follows established AMP systems for Quality and Safety.
  • Must help drive the culture for Best in Class Safety
  • Maintain the ability to drive for business purposes, including annual satisfactory DMV report, proof of insurance, valid driver license, and signature of statement related to notification to company of any changes related to driver record and insurance coverage
  • Ability to lead and work closely with project team members.
  • Performs other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Performs any other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Must be trained and familiar with general safety.
  • Must be trained and familiar with Quality System Awareness.
  • Must be trained and familiar with in-depth EPS processing and EPS tooling.
  • Additional training requirements as assigned by supervisor.
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is required.
  • Travel to other Atlas Molded Products plants is 50%.

Education & Experience:

  • Proven track record in process improvement and cost reductions.
  • Experience with Shape Molding Expandable Polystyrene preferred.
  • Proven experience and success with Lean Manufacturing, 5S methodologies, and Continuous Improvement preferred.
  • Mechanical Engineering experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, mechanical preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience in Manufacturing preferred

Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, drawings, and Shape Molding Processes.
  • Able to analyze costs, benefits, risk and success of a decision.
  • Generates new ideas and strategies and provides innovative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong working relationship with vendors, customers, and production team members.
  • Must be fluent in the English language, both written and spoken.
