The Product Development Engineer’s primary focus is to create and deliver technology solutions, which align with our market needs, to drive growth within Shakespeare’s Marine Antenna businesses. The engineer will actively collaborate with the business teams and internal technical team to deliver on project milestones and commercialize new offerings which meet customers’ needs. The development process is managed from the initial customer request through final product transition to manufacturing. Project consideration is given to product performance and cost enhancements which drive the businesses growth and profitability. This position also provides technical service and advice to Sales, Manufacturing & our customers.
Responsibilities
- Define the product strategy & new product roadmap
- Lead new Product Development projects from concept though launch
- Own the Product Development pipeline and stage-gate process
- Research and understand consumer and customer needs, benchmark competitive products, and develop innovative products that are cost effective and meet the needs of our consumer
- Manage the integration of new Product Development activities into the workflow of R&D, supply chain, marketing, compliance and other cross functional teams through regularly schedule meetings
- Work with customers and cross functional teams to create detailed product requirements and briefs
- Design, prototype, test and develop RF components including circuit boards, antennas, housings, power supplies and software interfaces
- Work with other members of the R&D team and vendors to support development of the RF assemblies and associated software
- Lead manufacturing trials, testing, measurements, and related documentation from initial tooling trials through production qualification
- Coordinate field testing and compliance testing either internally or with a 3rd party
- Organize, create and maintain product and quality specifications, test plans, sample plans, trial logs, timeline trackers, drawings, BOMs, test reports, patents and other key documents
- Conduct patent searches and work with legal team to file patentable concepts
- Conduct technical product training with internal sales and technical support staff
- Lifecycle Management
- Assist business director product lifecycle management
- Lead cost savings efforts and implement improvements to existing products
- Assist in supplier validation around capabilities, quality, and testing
- Provide technical support for solving product quality problems
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical/ RF engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in RF/ wireless communications industry and/or hardware technology company
- RF Design, test and compliance experience
- Successful track record of developing and launching new products
- Strong technical background in electrical engineering
- A working understanding of high-volume manufacturing process
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally required
- Technical project/product management experience preferred
