Sexual Assault Prevention and Advocacy Program
SEXUAL ASSAULT EXAMINER (SAE) CONTRACTOR
SAE Objectives
Provide specialized forensic examination services to survivors of Sexual Assault, which will include evidence collection, administration of prophylactic medications, and advocacy utilizing a survivor-centered approach.
Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of SAE Contractor shall include all the following as required for the treatment of survivors.
• Performance of diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, and supportive medical services for survivors within the professional licensing and training of SAE Contractor (including, but not limited to pelvic examinations and cultures).
• Provision of expert testimony related to individual cases as may be required by Orange County District Attorney.
• Participation in continuing education training in forensic procedures and related subjects as may be required by SAE program.
• Provision of on-call coverage, for a minimum of 6 days or 48 hours per month, including 1 weekend day.
• Performance of forensic examination services for survivors presenting at SAE Programs located at Garnet Health Medical Center and Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.
• Utilizing the New York State Sexual Offense Evidence Collection Kit, Sexual Assault Examiners administer prophylaxis medications, and ensure the collection and preservation of DNA in accordance with A National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations Adults/Adolescents.
• Photograph survivor injuries utilizing colposcope and digital camera.
• Attend minimum of six (6) SAE and/or Sexual Assault Response Team meetings per year.
Terms of Independent SAE Contractor
It is understood that SAE Contractor is an independent contractor, and is not
an employee of MHA. As such, SAE is responsible, where necessary, to
secure, at his/her sole cost, any insurance as may be required by law. MHA
shall not provide, nor will it be responsible to pay for, benefits for SAE
Contractor. Payment of all required payroll taxes or other payments required
by law related to the compensation paid pursuant to this Agreement shall be
the sole responsibility of SAE.
The SAE Contractor indemnifies MHA against any liability resulting from the SAE Contractor's failure to make any required tax payments.
SAE Contractor will be compensated by a voucher submitted for each
individual case.

Requirements
Qualifications
• Current Registered Nursing (RN) /Medical Professional Licensure in New York State.
• Minimum of one-year experience as a Registered Nurse/Medical Professional.
• Willingness to complete the NYS Department of Health mandated 40-hour training to become a certified SAE, along with follow up competencies and necessary shadowing.
• Valid NYS Driver's License.
• Ability to administer medication both orally and intravenously.
• Ability to respond to crisis calls to SAE programs located at Garnet Health Medical Center, Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital within 1 hour.
• Ability to provide scheduled on-call services with a minimum of 1 weekend day.
