Form of workSeasonal job (mid of May to mid of September approx.) looking for Head Cook/ Kitchen Manager for all meal preparations for 300+ people. Supervises all mess hall staff, including Second Cook. Helps out with additional tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares and serves meals (3-4 per day)
- Maintains inventories, orders food and supplies.
- Ensures that sanitary conditions are in full compliance with all Federal and State regulations.
- Manages menu to ensure good food cost and minimal waste.
- Train and supervise messhall staff.
- Prompt, reliable and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Must have the ability to work well under pressure, 10-12 or more hours per day, 7 days per week.
- Must be willing and able to work with other departments in a team atmosphere as time allows.
- Must be willing and able to live and work in confined quarters in a multi-cultural environment.
- Must always be professional and represent OBI Seafoods with the highest standards.
- Able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Excellent communication skills and great teamwork.
- Previous experience in culinary industry.
- Experience in quantity food preparation required.
- Energetic and able to work 10-12+ hours per day, 7 days per week.
- Substantial cooking experience.
- Baking experience desired.
- Good organizational skills.
- SERV Safe certification and/or Alaska Food worker card desired, but not limited to be qualify.
- Bilingual desired, but not limited to be qualify.
COMPENSATION:
- Pay rate depends on experience. This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime pay. In Alaska, overtime is one and one-half times the regular hourly rate and is paid for hours worked over 8 hours in a day and after 40 hours are worked in a week.
- OBI will purchase travel from the nearest International Airport to the work site. Upon successful completion of the season, we will provide return travel to your point of origin.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes,extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise.
- Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks, such as working aroundmechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards.
- Position requires the ability to stand,sit at a desk,walking around office andplant,lifting,and carrying packages up to 50 pounds,utilizing fine dexterity. Requiresreaching,kneeling,crawling,and twisting to inspect equipment. Also requires the ability to see,Hear,and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professionaletiquette.
- Personal protective equipment, as defined by OBI Seafoods, will beprovided.
- Position will be exposed to different levels of stress and responsibilities.
