Performs manual labor of a semi-skilled and unskilled nature in grounds maintenance. Works with crew under supervision but must also have the ability to work independently. Participates in planting, mowing, watering, cleaning and trimming of Airpark, roadways, and grounds; planting trees and shrubbery; operating equipment necessary in completing assigned tasks. Must be willing to learn all relevant tree and plant installation techniques. Must be willing to learn operation of tractor with bush hog mower and operate pressure wash equipment. Must be willing to learn how to spray for weeds. Must learn to talk to Air Traffic Control Tower clearly and be able to travel on airfield independently. Perform other duties as required.High school diploma or equivalent. At least two (2) years' experience in manual labor maintenance and/or construction work desired. Must possess minimum electrical experience or be willing to learn. Must be able to mow on airfield with Batwing Ford/John Deere tractor for numerous periods of time without supervision. Sufficient knowledge and experience in landscaping maintenance techniques is a must. Roundup license is a plus. BMP certification is a plus. Tree trimmer license is a plus. A valid Florida Class "B" CDL preferred or obtain within the one (1) year probationary period. Must obtain FDOT flagger or MOT certification within six months if offered. A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Labor-intensive position with the ability to move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally up to 100 lbs. Ability to operate equipment powered by motor and other hand tools. Ability to perform all required turf maintenance practices. Ability to operate City vehicles and possess the required license. Candidates should possess good communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, city officials, regulatory agencies and personnel and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation or political affiliation. Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Must be able to see, hear, talk, climb, push, pull, bend, lift, kneel and follow oral instructions. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Exposure to loud noises, machinery hazards, chemicals, gasses, paint, etc.
