Key Business Objective:
This is a 4-month internship opportunity. The Service Technician Intern for the Make-Ready Fleet is responsible for learning and performing the preservation, make-ready repair, short and long-term storage maintenance, major maintenance and reconfiguration of USA Compression idle natural gas compression equipment. The Intern will report to a Field Service Technician and to the Operations Service Manager. All USA Compression employees are responsible for maintaining a safe and professional work environment. This position is based in El Reno, OK.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand and follow all safety and environmental policies
- Engine rebuild/recondition on Caterpillar G3300, Cummins 8.3, 5.9 and G855, Arrow VRG 330 engines.
- Compressor rebuild/recondition on Ariel, Gemini, and Arrow compressor frames
- Engine component reconditioning
- Preserve and seal idle units as they return to the storage yards
- Roll over and re-preserve units that remain idle on a 180-day rotation
- Repair packages and make ready for redeployment into active status
- Perform major and minor scheduled maintenance procedures on idle units as necessary
- Reconfigure compressor cylinder arrangements as required to meet new contract needs
- Repair and maintain the heavy equipment inventory (HEI)
- General housekeeping by helping to keep warehouse facilities and yards free from trash and debris
- Assist in the loading and unloading of units as they enter and leave the storage yards
- Safely operate truck-mounted cranes, forklifts and other portable lifting equipment
- Keep units clean and maintain safe working conditions
- Any and all other duties as assigned.

Skills/Capabilities and Education:
- Must be currently enrolled in a relevant or relatable technical school or program for natural gas compression.
- Detail-oriented, professional, and personable.
- Ability to fully utilize the technological resources provided.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good communication/interface skills with customer field personnel, onsite vendors, and other tech teams.
- High degree of mechanical ability.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
- Ability to work extended hours.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communication from the company and supervisor including training, procedures, instructions, etc.
- Applicant must have the ability to legally work in the U.S
Working Conditions:
- Periodic lifting requirements in excess of 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk on uneven and varied terrain, climb ladders and stairs; and stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, and crawl depending on the task requirements.
- Exposure to extremes in temperature and weather conditions depending upon assigned location.
- Some exposure to high noise levels in excess of 85dBA that require ear protection, as well as exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.
- Working conditions in natural gas compression vary from one job site to another. Some job sites are indoors in compressor stations while other sites are outside, exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
- There is a strong emphasis on safety while working with heavy equipment and machinery.
