SUMMARY: The Service Technician is responsible for testing and repairing Class IV, infrared lasers and related industrial equipment. This individual will work directly with other technicians and engineers to solve both routine and complex challenges. The candidate must be self-motivated, a fast learner, a strong problem solver, and an exceptional communicator. The Service Technician must be knowledgeable and experienced in general craftsmanship and be capable of working within a high-tech manufacturing environment. Secondary responsibilities are to support field service and production tests as required by business needs. The Technician must react quickly to changing requirements, quickly learning and applying new skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned):
• Analyze and respond to complex inquiries from customers.
• Troubleshoot potential product defects or malfunctions.
• Test and repair Class IV lasers, including high-power RF circuit testing and soldering.
• Process warranty claims and maintain the warranty database.
• Work independently and efficiently.
• Compile and submit detailed repair reports, including formal failure analysis.
• Communicate with technical and sales staff verbally and in writing.
• Maintain and promote a safe work environment at all times.
• Use and maintain multiple types of test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, laser power meters, and high-voltage power supplies.
• Handle customer telephone calls and emails, providing excellent customer service and technical assistance in a timely manner.
• Assist with the production and testing of new laser units as required by demand.
• Be flexible and embrace other duties and responsibilities as determined by the manager.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Proficiency with basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and Excel or equivalents) and writing technical reports.
• Must be able to wear safety equipment while working, such as laser safety eyewear, and follow strict safety protocol.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and to walk and stand for long periods.
• Experience with handling optical components or laser operation is preferred.
• Knowledge of current product range z-laser, Infinity, and 250 watts is a plus.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Photonics/Optics/Laser experience is a plus.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings, processes, and specifications.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• At least 2-5 years of Manufacturing experience.
• BS in Engineering, or equivalent experience – preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical.
