Overview
The Service Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Service Manager with supervision of the technician team. This includes allocating jobs, ensuring technicians are properly trained, ensuring tools are available so technicians can complete their jobs, and addressing escalated issues. The Supervisor is expected to efficiently and accurately inspect work performed for quality control, work closely with the Service Manager to interview and select candidates for hire, meet with technicians to address performance concerns and celebrate successes, lead team meetings, and assist with corrective actions or terminations if needed.

Responsibilities
  • Control wage cost through supervision of technician productivity and proper scheduling. Help Service Manager make necessary changes to the schedule in case of technician absence or extra work. Communicate schedule changes to team
  • Ensure shop is clean and safe and that work areas are clean and free from debris by delegating tasks to technician team and following up on assignments. Work as a united team with the Service Manager to enforce company policies and procedures including safety rules and regulation
  • Review work done by technicians for accuracy and proper documentation. Coach and assist technicians with difficult or new duties as needed. Assign training as needed and establish procedures for maintaining accurate training records.
  • Ensure inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies is appropriately stocked and protected from loss. Set maintenance schedules for shop equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Work closely with the Service Manager and Warranty Administrator to ensure the technician team is handling warranty parts and documents appropriately.
  • Assist Service Manager with the recruitment process (technician sourcing, interviews, evaluation, etc.). Provide recommendations to Service Manager on candidate's readiness for the role.
  • Notify Service Manager immediately if concerned about technician performance. Document concerns as well as attempts to correct performance. In alignment with Service Manager, seek advice from the Human Resources department regarding options and advice for coaching and managing technicians who are not meeting goals. Attend performance coaching conversations conducted by Service Manager and provide feedback based on observations and facts.
  • Anticipate customer needs. Proactively introduce customers to other departments or other services that are available
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and friendly competition by exemplifying TEC Equipment's Vision, Mission, and Values and consistently positioning our Value Proposition with all customers. This includes developing a deep and clear understanding the relationship between the TEC Way and the bottom line, as well as being open and willing to take on other roles within the department when needed
  • Proactively prioritize own professional development to increase knowledge of business acumen and organizational development best practices in order to positively impact TEC Equipment's profitability.

Qualifications
  • At least one year of supervisory experience
  • 3+ years in a heavy-duty Truck Technician position; experience as a Service Foreman preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain predictable and reliable attendance and work in a safe and alert manner
  • Valid driver's license and able to meet insurance requirements
  • Expert knowledge of heavy-duty truck diagnosis and repair
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of trucking industry & business acumen
  • General knowledge of trailer parts inventory and sales process
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to coach technicians on how they can improve their own communication skills (for example, documenting job stories/write-ups)
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Proficiency with computer programs (MS Excel and Outlook, CDK, etc.)
  • Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment at

Compensation
The base pay range for this position is $71,005.10 to $88,756.30.
