The Diaspora Collective is dedicated to celebrating Africa and the African diaspora through food, music, art, and culture. It is located in downtown Phoenix in Heritage Square. It is a place for the community to gather, eat, drink, vibe, and shop. Latha, which means flavor in Swahili, is our restaurant and bar celebrating the diverse and delicious flavors of Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil, and the Southern US. Soko, which means market in Swahili, is our market of goods made and designed by Black artisans throughout Africa and the African diaspora.

Latha, our full-service upscale casual restaurant is seeking an experienced server to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience providing high levels of customer service, an ability to work well in a team environment, and will enjoy greeting customers. Previous experience in food service or the restaurant industry is required. You will be responsible for providing customers with a memorable dining experience.
Responsibilities:
- Greet customers, take orders and make recommendations.
- Act as a menu guide for customers, able to effectively convey origin and foodways stories
- Deliver food and drinks to customers in a timely and efficient manner
- Willingness to execute service details that set us apart from the rest
- Oversee customer services and resolve issues
- Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times, including setting and clearing tables
- Ensure responsible alcohol service, and comply with all state and local regulations regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages
- Maintain proper cash/credit card handling procedures as prescribed by the company
- Adhere to all safety and sanitation regulations
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in food service or other related fields, ideally at least one year
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong leadership qualities
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Positive, upbeat, and friendly attitude
- Love being an ambassador for Africa and the African diaspora.
- Must have valid food and liquor certifications
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $13.85 - $18.00 per year
