The Avionics Summer Engineering Project Program (SEPP) is our elite summer studentship established in 1995. Business relevant projects from various directorates are selected to support research, on campus partnerships, and introduce students to engineering rigor and challenges. During the summer, interns will work with their manager and technical mentor to defined a project plan and reach scoped milestones.

Current avionics architectures for input devices are not flexible to allow a new input device to be plugged into the system without changing the processor interacting with the device. This summer project will create and demonstrate how a USB like HID (Human Interface Device) specification could be applied to avionics equipment to enable architectures that are extensible and robust. This project will require to define the requirements and design for the interface between an input device and the processor, implement that specification, and verify that it works.

This role is based out of our Cedar Rapids, IA site location; may be eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Creates, compiles and consolidates testing on diagnostic systems containing logical and mathematical solutions.

• Assists in conducting disciplinary research on one or more stages of the equipment design phase to develop design options and recommendations.

• Learns hardware and software standards and ensures work product adheres to these standards and business objectives of the organization are met. 

Basic Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum GPA of 3.5 of above

• Students should be at junior or senior status by Summer 2024
