SENIOR WEIGHSCALE OPERATOR II

LOCATION:
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, SOLID WASTE OPERATIONS & ENGINEERING SECTION, REFUSE SITE OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE GROUP, VARIOUS

NOTE:
The current vacancy is at Calabasas Landfill but the list of eligible candidates resulting from this posting may be used to fill any additional vacancies that may occur in the next six (6) months at Calabasas Landfill, Scholl Canyon Landfill, or Puente Hills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To provide technical guidance to and participate in the weighing of refuse loads and the collecting of fees as well as various maintenance tasks at a solid waste management facility.
JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of a Solid Waste Operations Supervisor or higher classification, the incumbent will:

  • Coordinate scale house operations and participate in the work such as weighing trucks and trailers, computing net weights, computing and collecting appropriate cash and charge account fees and tallying checks and recording daily financial records
  • Compile daily and periodic financial and site usage reports
  • Answer questions from customers and the public regarding refuse disposal fees and policies
  • Total fees received daily
  • Specify and review work procedures providing instruction or training to maintain efficiency, safety and technical adequacy
  • Make bank deposits
  • Oversee site laborers
  • Complete clerical paperwork

Qualified applicants must possess all of the following:
  • A valid California Class C driver's license for positions performing on-the-job driving
  • Two (2) years of experience in weighing of vehicles and collection of fees at a Solid Waste management facility or similar operations, preferably which involved leadership responsibilities.
Knowledge of:
  • Leadership principles
  • Disposal fee collection policies
  • Scale house equipment and procedures

Ability to:
  • Oversee scale house workers
  • Compile financial and site usage reports
  • Operate and coordinate all aspects of multiple scale houses
  • Perform a variety of site maintenance tasks
SELECTION PROCESS:
  • All applications will be reviewed to determine if the conditions and qualifications for testing are met.
  • The selection process will consist of a written exam weighted at 50% and an interview weighted at 50%.
  • Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process.
  • The written exam is scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
  • The interviews will tentatively take place the week of February 5, 2024
  • This posting will remain open until vacancy is filled, so later test dates may be added and is subject to closure without notice.
