Senior Web Application Developer/Architect
Digital Products & Services
The American College of Physicians (ACP), a prestigious medical membership association for Physicians of internal medicine located in Philadelphia, is seeking a Senior Web Application Developer/Architect.
The Senior Web Application Developer/Architect is responsible for individual and team-based design and development of interactive digital products of the ACP, including but not limited to online self-assessment products, digital publications, and other online and mobile products of the ACP. This role will require expertise in several--and familiarity with all--layers of full-stack Web Application development. This is a hybrid role in Philadelphia with at least one day in the office per week required.
Responsibilities:
  • Leads product-centric teams and, as necessary, individually carries out the design and development of interactive medical education products, digital publications, and auxiliary software products and related platforms, including architectural design and development across the full cycle of digital product development.
  • Leads efforts to identify “off-the-shelf” systems, emphasizing open-source and low-cost frameworks where available; utilizes them to build solutions to meet specific needs; and maintain them as necessary to adapt to changing requirements or shifts in the technical environment.
  • Works closely with Sr. Web Application Developers, Sr. Architects, and division management on R&D efforts within the department with an eye toward current and future trends in standards-based software architecture
  • Works closely with Sr. Web Application Developers, Sr. Architects, and Directors to ensure that designs and techniques are compliant with system architectures and standards in place within the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in the area of Computer Science
  • Experience designing and developing database-backed, multi-tiered Web Applications
  • Experience with standards-based, service-oriented architectures and open-source environments
  • Experience working with content management systems such as Drupal is a plus.
  • Work experience must demonstrate:
    1. Solid understanding of the entire application stack
    2. Demonstrable experience with server-side JavaScript and JavaScript application frameworks.
    3. Experience integrating current client-side technologies for the front end, e.g., current CSS-based layouts, JS libraries (JQuery, React), HTML5, and ideally, mobile-optimized views
    4. MySQL (or similar) database design/development or SQL Server
    5. Integration with cloud-based data sources, e.g., Amazon RDS
  • Excellent project management skills to keep various projects moving simultaneously.
  • Good communication skills are required to communicate with all levels of College staff.
