About the David Lynch Foundation 

The David Lynch Foundation (DLF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2005 that addresses the epidemic of trauma and toxic stress among underserved populations through the implementation of the evidence-based Transcendental Meditation technique. 

The Position

DLF has been growing steadily and is now seeking to accelerate growth. The board and executive team seek a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and process-minded leader. This individual will have deep experience leading an executive management team and developing a performance culture among diverse, talented individuals. 

The SVP must be a leader who can help others at DLF deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the vision a reality. Notably, the successful SVP will have the skills, sensitivity, and confidence to tap into the power that each team member brings to this mission. The SVP will have a thorough understanding of finance, systems, and HR as well as broad previous exposure to the full range of non profit business functions and systems, including strategic planning, budgeting, finance, information systems, human resources, development and marketing.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the CEO, the SVP will lead all internal operations alongside the EVP.

Working in partnership with the Executive Team, the SVP will serve as an integral part of the Executive Team by leading and managing the organization's Vice Presidents, who have the following responsibilities.

  • Development
  • Programs 
  • Finance
  • Facilities and Contracts
  • Technology and Systems

The SVP will provide all staff with a solid day-to-day leadership presence, bridge operations, and support with an open-door policy. Coordinate the annual operations plan and budget.

Finance, Technology, and Human Resources

  • Cultivate the values of DLF. 
  • Instill a human resources team focused on "coaching" for success within DLF; upgrade human resources functions as needed, including wellness, training, development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, performance evaluation, and recruiting.
  • Supervise the IT function
  • Working with the finance team, ensure DLF has robust accounting and reporting systems. 
  • Review the current technology infrastructure and make recommendations regarding the next level of information technology and financial systems that support the growth of programs and the organization

Facilities and Contracts

  • Manage the offices and facilities of the DLF nationwide (which include 3 locations in Washington DC, an operational and program headquarters in New York City), and an office in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Working closely with the General Counsel, review, manage and track all contracts (including employment and consulting contracts, insurance policies, program related MOUs, leases, etc.)

Fundraising (the Development function reports to the CEO with dotted-line reporting to SVP).

  • Development and maturation of systems for reporting, measurement, and supporting revenue generation.
  • Oversee the administrative aspects, including proposal preparation and grant writing.

Additional requirements

The successful candidate will have a: 

  • Proven history of exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation. Evidence of consistently making good decisions through analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment. The SVP will have a high level of business acumen, including successful P&L management.  The SVP must have the ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of a budget; and excellent skills in problem-solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness.
  • Strategic vision and ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into the organizational plan.
  • The ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a top-notch workforce and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.
  • Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people. (S)he should be a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations and the ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups as well as the capacity to enforce accountability, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team to put people in a position to succeed.
  • An action oriented mindset in which they enjoy working hard and looking for challenges and are not afraid to take charge of a situation or take unpopular stands when necessary.
  • Solid educational background—undergraduate degree required, MBA or similar advanced degree highly desired.

Key Qualifications

The successful candidate must believe in the core values of DLF and be driven by the mission. Beyond that, we seek a candidate with proven experience in scaling a multi-site organization and a demonstrated ability to lead and build the capabilities of a driven, bright, diverse team.
