GHD is proud to have one of North America's largest tunnel design practices! We have an excellent opportunity for a SeniorTunnelLead to join our North American business and enhance our USA growth, particularly in California.

The primary role is to work with our Transportation, Water and Energy (Hydro) business leaders to secure and implement tunnel design works in USA and to support the growth and execution of tunneling projects within North America and Globally.

Our tunnel group is currently active across the US and Canada with transportation and utility tunnel projects. We are the technical advisor for the Scarborough Subway Extension and Yonge North Subway Extension projects and detailed designer for Ontario Line South in Ontario, the detailed design of the REM Station cavern at Montreal Airport and are active in dozens of utility tunnels across the US and Canada. Globally, we are in detailed design and construction phases on water, metro, freight, rail and hydroelectric projects in Australia and the Philippines with a healthy pipeline of opportunities across all sectors.

The successful candidate will lead the pursuit and execution of tunnel projects, growing a core team with a focus of a global delivery model and provide a balance of client engagement, technical guidance, mentorship and project management.

Business Development and Client Service Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Client interface, with owners such as transport and utility agencies and contractors for design and construct projects
  • Ability to interact between design and construction teams, build and maintain relationships and drive efficiency
  • Proven success in leading design consultant projects to time and cost targets, engineering standards and contract requirements
  • Demonstrated flexibility and resilience in dealing with complex issues and an ability to deploy sound problem-solving methodologies
  • Project and design management, from feasibility and bidding through to construction

Specialist Knowledge and Experience in:

  • Leading the delivery and detailed design of complex tunnel projects
  • Leading tunnel supervision or oversight of a design team for major interdisciplinary tunneling projects
  • Comprehensive experience in multiple types of tunnel projects including large diameter and utility micro tunneling
  • A natural communicator & strategic problem solver who is proactive, professional & collaborative
  • Local experience in either a construction or engineering consultancy with a commercial mentality
  • Proven success in meeting or exceeding the expectations of customers and partners and in meeting organizational mission commitments and deliverables
  • Be willing to travel to and hold an active Passport

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering or related subject area along with a Master's Degree in Tunnel/Geotechnical Engineering will be an asset
  • 15 years post-graduate experience with a minimum of 5 years in large diameter tunnels and underground projects
  • Professional engineering designation of PE in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering in California and eligible for professional status across USA and Canada
  • Experience in tunnel construction with a technical focus and tunnel industry profile across North America with owners and contractors Demonstrated skills in project management - capable of leading medium to large tunneling projects in the transportation and rail engineering areas

Salary Range: $148,000- $240,000 based on location and experience
