This Opportunity
WSP has an immediate opening for a highly skilled, motivated and experienced Senior Transit Project Managerin our National Transit and Rail Group for our growing Minneapolis, MN office.
This position is expected to serve as a trusted client advisor on large scale, complex LRT, BRT and Commuter Rail Transit Projects and programs involving transit investments in Minnesota communities and around the country.
This position will work closely with other Senior Transit Technical Leaders and management professionals in creating dynamic multi-disciplinary teams that will advance significant transit capital programs though design, procurement and construction for various government clients.
The individual must be a motivated team player, able to provide high-level technical program management, financial/funding guidance, design, and strategy assistance to support client priorities.
The individual must have significant experience with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Capital Investment Grant programs and requirements, including Project Management Plans, Financial Plans, Capital Cost Estimates, Scheduling, New Start Templates, Operations and Maintenance Planning, and design requirements.
The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to lead proposal responses and prepare the team for client interviews.
Your Impact
  • Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of engineering discipline's project and program involvement within the organization.
  • Lead the most complex and largest scale transit and rail engineering projects within the engineering discipline, ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring internal and external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance and profitability, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
  • Responsible for the pursuit and development of business and the successful execution of work for current and potential infrastructure work within a geography specifically for the large projects within the area.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Drive the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Transit and Rail Engineering work for WSP in assigned area of responsibility, with a focus on infrastructure opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, strategic consulting, and program/construction management).
  • Accountable for the profitable performance of the individual projects and the successful completion of the projects within the specified area.
  • Drive compliance and accountability-at-all-levels with applicable Federal, State, and Local engineering/design/construction laws, codes, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee internal vision and mission for the engineering discipline, ensuring alignment with business operations strategy, and maintaining that certifications, accreditations, and client value ratings are continuously improved.
  • Lead engineering discipline meetings and continuing educational opportunities for area of responsibility, providing updates and recommendations to staff that ensure all appropriate measures are taken to foster innovation, development, and quality project delivery within the discipline.
  • Serve as the engineering discipline's representative/liaison to a variety of external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.
  • Provide senior leadership for proposals and project work scopes, pricing, budget, and performance metrics for the engineering discipline.
  • Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents for complex projects and initiatives that result in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.
  • Provide discipline leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.
  • Provides performance guidance and proactive leadership to assigned managers and staff.
  • Develop high-level business contacts and a client base for providing high level transit and rail engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities, and cross-selling of other WSP capabilities.
  • Remain current in latest transit and rail engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • 15 years of progressively responsible experience in complex Transit Projects program management and design advancement
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Transportation Planning or a related field
  • Proven experience and success in working with FTA on Capital Investment Grants applications
  • Knowledge and experience with federal, state, and local transit and rail funding programs, including discretionary grant programs
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas orally and in written form
  • Critical, strategic, and creative thinking skills
  • Computer skills (Document production, Spreadsheets, Presentations)
  • Proficiency with the transportation project development cycle, including from planning to implementation
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Travel will be required depending on project-specific assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with both local transit/programming agencies (Metro Transit, Met Council, local Operators) and other mature national transit clients
  • Active involvement in transit related organizations or societies
