The role:
As our Senior Traffic Safety Engineering Specialist, you will perform complex traffic engineering and safety related investigations. You will research and compile information and coordinate with staff to identify and assess actions or improvements that may enhance traffic operations and safety. Apply to join our team today!
Hybrid remote work options available - a minimum of 3 days per week will be in the office or the field. Depending on the final candidate's preference, this position will be located in either Roseburg or White City!

A day in the life:
  • Plan, lead and conduct technically complex traffic engineering field investigations.
  • Research, gather and evaluate traffic volumes and crash data to support field investigations.
  • Evaluate existing traffic operations and safety characteristics and prepare recommendations for improvements.
  • Research and review reported crashes on the state highway system that involve fatalities and identify safety countermeasures.
  • Lead the development of the region's project applications for the All Roads Transportation Safety (ARTS) program.
  • Assist the traffic team with project development activities including preparing technical data to support the design process, reviewing plans and verifying final installations of various traffic control devices and features.
  • Conduct or review speed zone investigations within the region.
  • Work involves considerable driving throughout the region with occasional overnight travel.
  • Work involves frequent exposure to high speed traffic and occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Work will be performed both in an office and alone in the field.

Minimum qualifications:
Seven years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience. Two years of this experience must have been independently planning and completing assignments in drafting, field or laboratory inspection, construction contract administration, surveying, materials testing, or traffic investigations.
OR
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying or transportation-related engineering and four years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse teams of people to solve problems.
  • Experience or educational background focusing on Traffic Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply sound technical analysis and reasoning skills in developing solutions to traffic related problems.
  • Experience conducting traffic investigations or speed zone investigations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and ODOT traffic engineering manuals and standards.
