Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as the Traction Power Engineer in the conceptual, preliminary, and final design of complex and high-profile transit projects.
- Directing, preparing, reviewing, and approving the preparation of engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for rail transit Traction Power projects.
- Providing technical direction and assuring accuracy of the work produced by the design team, including plans, specifications, calculations, simulations, and estimates.
- Preparing and directing production of load flow studies.
- Interfacing with other disciplines to assure proper coordination.
- Assuring compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations.
- Interfacing with the Project Manager to determine schedules and monitor design progress.
- Attending meetings with clients and third parties as required to coordinate various design activities.
- Preparing reports for systems studies.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSEE degree and a minimum of 10 years of related work experience is required.
- Experience in planning and design of rail transit systems, utility power systems, or major infrastructure projects is required.
- California Professional Engineer's license or Engineer-in-Training certification is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Potential to lead engineering staff.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Knowledge of electrical power systems design involving power transformers, medium and high voltage substation equipment, and electrical distribution systems is required. In addition, knowledge of communications, rail transit systems, and central control facilities is desirable.
- Familiarity with rail transit industry standards, practices, and regulations is required.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work in a cooperative team environment, with a significant client interface.
