Job Description:
The Senior Technical Sales Manager will work as a part of the licensing group. This group is responsible for preparation of all technical and commercial proposals for the refining technologies licensed by Elessent (STRATCO® alkylation, IsoTherming® hydroprocessing and BELCO® scrubbing technologies). This group works cross functionally with the regional sales teams, key technical members of the technology team and the commercial contracts team to lead the opportunity from conceptual phase through signature of the commercial agreements.
The Senior Technical Sales Manager will be primarily responsible for the development technical and commercial proposals for the STRATCO® alkylation, IsoTherming® hydroprocessing and / or BELCO® scrubbing technologies. The successful candidate will support more complex proposals to includes both grassroots (new) unit applications as well as revamps of existing assets. Depending on experience level, this position could specialize in a particular technology area or support numerous technologies offered by Elessent. The candidate will work in a team to set priorities, analyze data and to provide the optimal technical solution. The candidate will also work in a team setting with the R&D and engineering groups in support of technology advances.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver technical and commercial proposals which meet the needs of STRATCO® Alkylation, IsoTherming® Hydroprocessing and / or BELCO® scrubbing technologies and customers to include: review customer inquiries, complete process simulations, perform unit configuration analysis utilizing technical and commercial evaluation criteria based on the specific feed, utility and product values.
  • Prepare clear and thorough documentation of key design points and sales/business/technical decisions made during proposal development.
  • Use technical proposal templates to prepare final proposal deliverables including: process flow diagrams, process description, heat and material balances, equipment sizing, and product predictions.
  • Provide lead technical support at pre-contract customer meetings.
  • Effectively communicate both written and verbal to internal and external customers.
  • Support of key growth initiatives for the technologies.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Commercial pricing and contract negotiation support
  • Marketing communications support for technologies to include potential public speaking engagements and / or written publications.
  • Provide engineering support to other departments to include:
    • Process engineering support for project execution
    • Inside technical service support for commercial unit monitoring

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
  • 10-12 years of process engineering experience with preference to those with experience in the refining, petrochemical and / or air pollution control industries.
  • Ability to analyze data, set priorities, organize tasks and meet deadlines, while coordinating multiple job functions.
  • Ability to understand every aspect of a proprietary process, including chemistry, equipment, problems to avoid, research results, design standards, and technology history.
  • Experience with process modeling simulators.

Additional Candidate Qualifications:
  • People management experience a plus
  • Excellent communication skills to understand and document customer requirements and to effectively convey recommendations to other disciplines.
  • Strong presentation skills including leading meeting and customer presentations.
  • Ideal candidate is high-energy, creative, well-organized and a self-starter, who demonstrates technical excellence and is comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel both domestic and internationally up to 10% on an annual basis.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal oversight.
  • Relocation to the Kansas City area is not required, but special consideration will be given to candidates able to work in-office setting at least 60% of the time.
