GENERAL FUNCTION

The Sr. Accountant, Tax Technology will play an integral role in supporting the North American Indirect Tax function. This position will take a hands-on approach in advising on the design, implementation and operation of tax solutions for sales and use taxes, gross receipts taxes, property taxes and unclaimed funds. The role will also assist with driving the transformation of processes through leveraging automation, data analytics, and robotics. The position will work with the Indirect Tax Technology Manager and cross-functional teams to improve tax applications, reporting capabilities, and operational processes.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Vertex O Series On-Demand configuration changes, update/implementation projects
  • Perform tax system testing related to new business initiatives and system upgrades
  • Maintain and configure various indirect tax solutions (e.g. Vertex, CertCapture, etc.)
  • Support the development and maintenance of Robotics to pursue efficiencies for tax processes and projects
  • Document, analyze and make recommendations on improving performance of end to end tax processes (inputs, outputs, and systems integrations thereof)
  • Train and support end users of tax solutions
  • Serve as a liaison between Tax, Accounting, and Information Technology departments to improve flow of tax data
  • Manage the quality and timeliness of deliverables as well as coordination of resources
  • Remain current on new Tax Technology developments
  • Identify ways to further automate processes to improve accuracy and create efficiencies using tools such as Alteryx
  • Support audit and tax business function in areas such as Sales/Use Tax, GST/PST/QST, unclaimed property and business licenses
  • Assist audit and compliance teams by determining how to effectively gather data from various systems to summarize tax positions and workpapers for tax returns
  • Help with other indirect tax projects and compliance activities, as needed

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Information Technology, or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in public accounting and/or private industry working primarily in indirect tax
  • Demonstrated tax systems experience (Vertex O-Series) and ancillary systems familiarity (ETL tools, ERP systems (SAP/Oracle), Business Intelligence tools (OBIEE/SAP BI), Data Visualization, RPA
  • Excellent time management, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams and proactively seek solutions or suggest improvements
  • Ability to use technology in order to gain efficiencies
  • Self-Motivated, business savvy, integrity and team player
  • Research and analytical skills a must

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Additional Software Skills Preferred: MS Suite, Alteryx
