The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting with the filing company's tax documents for income tax and indirect tax, including manging the filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales, use, and property tax compliance obligations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the filing of the company’s tax documents, including quarterly and annual payments.
- Provides support on gathering data for preparation of income tax return, including extensions and estimated tax.
- Reviewing, filing, and payment of indirect tax returns (sales/use, business & occupation, gross receipts, property tax)
- Assist with interim and year-end general ledger sales tax, Income tax, and international tax accounts reconciliation.
- Provide support for the company’s tax provision schedules.
- Able to respond accurately to state tax notices.
- Participate in JDE system’s and Sabrix software design, maintenance, and implementation related to sales, use and property tax matters to ensure compliance, enhance efficiency and minimize expense.
- Coordinate and respond to indirect tax audit requests.
- Assist with all compliance and audit activities related to indirect taxes.
- Communication with Vertex (sales tax compliance provider) and resolving sales tax deficiencies with various jurisdictions and scheduling tax payments.
- Business Tax Registrations, Business Licenses Registration, Sales Tax Registration
- Maintain filing calendar for the following tax types (income tax, sales/use, business & occupation, gross receipts, property tax) for all entities.
- Resolves routine and non-routine tax issues.
- Solid data analysis and data management
- Able to respond to inquiries from accounting and other business units.
Qualifications - External
Education, Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business or accounting or equivalent work experience desired. CPA/CTA or equivalent and/or Master’s degree in taxation is a plus.
- 3-5 years of work experience in both income and sales use tax in mid to large corporation is required. Strong, demonstrated follow through and perseverance to coordinate multiple responsibilities and projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well, verbally and in written communications.
- Previous knowledge and experience; coordinating and assisting with SOX and other various audits, as required.
- Demonstrated high level of professionalism and courtesy to all employees and vendors, maintaining excellent vendor and business relationships.
- Must be well versed on current legislative/regulatory aspects that govern tax procedures and requirements.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Able to follow up with audit processes, procedures and work instruction compliance
- Able to be detail oriented and perform in depth research, if required
- Able to be communicate with multiple critical departments such as legal and Finance
- Strong competency working with integrated data systems, Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and intermediate Word and Excel are requirednsibilities:
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Assist clients with tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Review financial statements and accounting records to identify potential tax savings opportunities.
- Provide guidance and support to junior staff members in tax preparation and research.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to gather necessary information for accurate tax reporting.
- Stay up-to-date on changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of payroll, corporate accounting, debits/credits, budgeting, financial auditing, and double-entry bookkeeping.
- Proficient in using financial software and tax preparation software.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Experience working with financial services or private equity clients is a plus.
